Well, I finally splurged on myself and I have a VERY FINE condition in box Model 41 5.5" heavy barrel on the way to me ( S/N A194xxx so 1972 ). It has the paperwork, tools, three magazines and a nearly perfect box.

I will use only Std velocity ammo in it.

My questions :

Should I go ahead and get a buffer tech. buffer for it?

Ammo. I am aware that CCI SV is the ammo to use. However, I have a sealed brick of Federal 711B std velocity from an earlier project.

Has anyone had any experience with the 711B in a Mod 41? I figure if it feeds and shoots OK I should be ine with it.

I've used 711B in my 41's it worked just fine, but I still stay with CCI Standard. Use the 711B in my custom Ruger 10/22.

With your parameters, buffer not necessary but will not hurt if it does not interfear in feeding. Fedral should be fine but CCI finer.

Thanks Tom, I was hoping you would chime in.

I'll pick up some CCI SV whan available ( Local shop is out ) and won't worry about the buffer unless I see one locally or I am placing an order anyway. I don't mind the 9.95 but 5-7 shipping is too much just for the buffer.

Champion Shooters Supply , Champions Choice & Grice Gun Shop usually have the best case prices on CCI SV . The paper packed is cheaper . Just make sure they have clear plastic " keeper " with no legs & bullets are black / dark grey . Some of the paper packed was Federal produced with a white keeper with legs , not what you want .

You may want to try shooting several brands to see what "your" 41 likes. They are different. I have tried many brands in mine and had issues with Federal, Remington and Eley Match. Had FTF's and stovepipes until I tried CCI Green Tag. In all of the practice rounds and matches shot in my bullseye league, I never had any problems with the Green Tag.

Your gun may like something else.:D
