A different problem in self-defense

this stuff is going to keep happening till someone blasts a bunch of fools in the act, legally. i no longer go anyplace that is "gun free". i now have started carrying my G17, a spare mag, and an airweight with 2 speed strips. i refuse to be a victim, and will help out if the need arises. nobody is innocent to me anymore and nobody gets the benefit of the doubt... i wont let this stuff happen to me or my family. these fools need to learn that there's consequence for their actions.

The video is disturbing, first the moron taking it ( apparently it was funny till it was someone she knew ), second the pack/mob mentality in full bloom.
Every place is ( "bad" "dangerous") carry what you believe is needed for your survival. I carried a Ruger speed six with 145 gr Silvertips and a folder every day that I lived in chicago during late 1980's. I only "needed" them twice and no shots were fired.
Now I carry my Sigma 40 F, ( yes I have glocks,M&P F & C all in 40 ) but the Sigma has been with me and has not failed. 2 mags, a 638 BUG with 2 reloads, kershaw, light that will never be bright enough or light/small enough, phone, cuffs/ zip tie.
As to the video- you never know when or where someone will lose touch with reality and you find yourself in the middle. Awareness is your best asset, if I see 25 males of mixed race walking towards me, if I am next to my car I will be in it, calling 911, getting out of dodge. They may only want to ask for a ( match, time) I will never know. Bottom line is you need a plan, and a backup plan, and hopefully you can think quickly because you are in an ever changing situation. Better to be aware with a J frame, phone, light then a Glock 18 with drum mag and be oblivious to your surroundings.
If you have to fight to survive, FIGHT TO WIN. Be Safe,

Well I certainly hope they aren't figuring round counts out as the shooting goes on. If so they are of a greater determination than most are prepared to deal with. I for one am not counting on the other fellas not counting. I worry that a jframe that isn't talking really isn't a great presence in a self defense situation. It doesn't get pulled unless it has something to say and whatever it is had better not have long pauses between statements.

I live in a nice part of the city where I reside. However, 4 or 5 miles away, it is NOT a good area. My wife is not enthusiastic about my concealed carry, but when we go to that area (only Wal-Mart within miles) - she always says "you're packin'...right?" We have gotten to where we only go there in daylight hours.

Well said, although I have no idea how you conceal all the items you listed if that is in fact what you carry with you. Yes, it's always better to be prepared for anything, but that would mean I never left home without my AR. We need balance but at the end of the day, carry what you feel is sufficient to defend your life and those around you.

Most importantly, TRAIN!!! If the other offenders are also armed, you may come out on top if you're the quicker draw and better shot. I've seen it before in a video from...yes...Chicago. An off-duty Cook county sheriff was getting gas when two thugs walk up and point a gun in his face to rob him. One thug is at 12 O'clock, the other at 4 O'clock. The sheriff complies but is moving slowly and distracting the robber. As he's doing this, he is slowly turning his body away from the main offender at the 12 position who is armed. The sheriff manages to draw his concealed weapon and fire, striking the perp in the head. The other guy ran away like the coward these people are. Cop wins. Bad guy loses his life. Idiot locals say on the news the bad guy was a great person who didn't deserve to die. They even set up a memorial at the gas station. Come on...

Concealing is not a problem, Sigma on rt hip, dbl mag on left, 638 rt front pocket, speedloaders left front, kershaw clipped to pocket, you just have to keep your pants up. Granted I wear a denim shirt all the time ( winter is not far away in the UP ) But I could be almost as happy with 638,speedloaders, small polymer 380 with mags and a Kershaw, light, regardless, awareness is still my most effective weapon. I have been craving A pizza, on Western just south of Armitage??????? Be Safe

Don't go there. He got suspended. Look back at my initial post, and my excerpt from it - it's about thug culture, which crosses all racial and other lines.

I was genuinely curious about what his answer would be. I'm not sure "thug" is right term. To me, that connotes an innate dedication to lawlessness. What we see here involves conscious thought. The culture we're talking about is one born of instant gratification, unaccountability, insensitivity, and entitlement. Unfortunately, that lifestyle/culture seems to be becoming predominant. I agree that it crosses every racial, regional, social, and economic line, and it will ultimately be the downfall of society as we know it. Ayn Rand seemed to have a handle on it. . .

I think it's a bunch of feral kids who have never had proper parental guidance or discipline. Parents mostly absent or drugged out, dysfunctional schools, no church attendance to instill morals -- just basically feral kids run wild.

The problem is, depending on where you live, these feral kids are becoming the "norm" instead of the exception. And that is truly sad.

It's really just the mob mentality, where people lose their individual identity. These days it is easy for kids to form a mob in an instant. Kids have also figured out that it is unlikely that they will ever have to answer for their actions. Too much free time and no proper upbringing also contribute. Lack of respect for authority has also trickled down from the parents to the kids. Kids feel little pressure to keep from bringing shame on their families.

I understand what you are saying, I saw what was happening and got into street away from the first person and the rapidly approaching second, I had moved my down coat back, hand on the grip and they broke into a rapid trot in the opposite direction, I had no need to continue my draw since the threat had ceased. Not sure what you mean by round counts, if you need to defend you keep firing till the threat stops or you expend your ammo. Be Safe,

In today's society, no matter how justified, I can't see anyone who shoots several young people, not having to face many consequences. The law suits alone would be a huge burden for many years. The news media would unmercifully hound the shooter. It would be one's worst nightmare.

I would like to think there was something that could be done for these kids besides shooting them.

Their biggest mistake so far in life was being born to the wrong parents, in the wrong neighborhood, in the wrong city.

Maybe there is a way to keep them from making bigger mistakes.

They need to be held accountable for their actions.

But not shot dead.

I know what you mean. However if your the victim, like the
man who walked from the parking lot and was right in front of the store when he got jumped, your point of view might be
different. I expect the elderly lady who also got assaulted
might think differently too. The time for them to be held
accountable was before they got to the stage where they
assault folks. When it reaches this point only lead poisoning is about the only cure. None of this pepper spray and so forth
would have worked on that crowd of thugs.
