I got this t-shirt a little over 9 years ago when the first of 3 grandmunchkins came along. I wear it on outings with them and get asked all the time where I got it LOL.
Jed.
My childhood nickname which I have not used since I started school and the teacher started calling me by my "given" name Gary.
Sort of a symetry there.....
Both of my daughter's still call me Dad, both son-in-laws call me Rich. My 2 collage age granddaughters and my 3 year old grandson all call me Papa. My wife is called Grandma Suzie by all of them.
When visiting my Daughter, we always played Monopoly in the evenings. My Daughter usually kept score, and abbreviated the columns, mine was G'pa. Later when playing with the Wii game, I was naturally put in as G'pa, and to this day, I'm still G'pa.
I was Papaw for quite a while with my daughters twins then they slowly started calling me Grampa. Their younger brother by two years called me Paul (my name) for ages than just switched over to Grampa too. Grandma was always Grandma with all of them
I was a high ranking LEO and worked into my sixties. I was an old anomaly as nobody worked past about fifty-seven.
My staff called me "Pops" behind my back. When I found out, I hated it. Not sure why. We were paramilitary and it just sounded insubordinate to me.
One day I found something complementary written about me by a staffer. She referred to me as Pops. That note completely changed my attitude. It was a term of endearment. I needed to eat some humble pie.
So I adopted the handle Pops and loved it.
Back on topic...my sons have always called me Pops. Now my five grandchildren call me Pops too.
I have four grandchildren. Three are old enough to call me Poppy. The kids at work, who are younger than my daughter call me Pops. I don't mind and it's better than some things they could call me.
How can we have a thread about grandkids without pictures. I doubt any of them wear shoes.
My 9 year old grandson calls me grandpa, his twin sister calls me either grandpa or grampy. My 20 month old grandson calls me papa, his 3 month old brother just looks at me and smiles, that says it all!
My maternal grandparents were "Mom" and "Pop". Everyone called them Mom and Pop, they were such warm, friendly people the names just fit them. My Dad's parents were "Grandmom" and "Grandpop".
