Chevy, Ford & Toyota are what the cars are called. So what I have seen on the inside and read about the drive train, my question is, what parts are actually from the automakers, if any. Or is it just the money?

For quite a while the "cars" in NASCAR, about the only thing similar from what you can buy and what is raced is the name.

The cost of a NASCAR and what your dealership has are quite different also. The one you can buy is much cheaper!:D

Basically NONE.
Rear end is Ford style 9".
Toyota manufactures the engine block and heads, everything else is Nascar approved aftermarket manufacturers.
Hutter in Chardon Ohio used to build the Chevy Nascar truck series engine,IIRC nothing was of Chevy manufacture.

Basically, the cars are all dedicated race cars built to a spec sheet. And like posted above, the motors pretty much have not much of anything in common with the motors the manufacturers put in their road cars. Heck, Toyota doesn't even offer any kind of OHV V8 engine at all in their road vehicles. The Tundra has a DOHC V8 engine and that's about as close as they get to their NASCAR engines (same number of cylinders in a V shape).

My understanding, which is very limited,is that all the cars are basically the same.Nascar wants to show more driver skill than pure muscle.

Engines are checked to make sure they fall within certain guidelines and even the bodies have to fit a molded cutout.Often you will see a driver pull away from the pack but rest assured he's taking a chance by using fuel quicker to get an advantage.

Like I said (and think) it's all about driver skill...Managing fuel consumption, tire wear and avoiding crashes.

The Blue Oval the Bow Tie and what ever the logo for Toyota is. Every thing else is spec built to NASCAR rules remember Taurus was a four door.

all the bodies of the cars are exactly the same. the only thing different is the logo on the front of the car.

So then what does the term NASCAR mean today? It obviously doesn't have the same meaning as when NASCAR began many years ago. Then you could race a car right from the dealers showroom.......

Today it's all about money and sponsorship...the racing, especially now with "Stages", is frankly pretty boring. The cars are all the same, just the decals are different.

The name and to a small degree, the shape of the car is all that remains of the factory input. I used to love stock car races and was always interested in who won and what they were driving. That was back when you could buy a car from a dealer, remove the seats, weld in a roll bar and race. Today's fiasco holds absolutely no interest for me.

As a side note, I also loved the old figure 8 races. Always good for some smash ups, but because the cars could only go so fast, people seldom got hurt.

There hasn't been a "stock" car in NASCAR since at least 1949 when they found they had to put truck parts on the cars to make them hold up. Since then they're replaced, modified, strengthened, lightened, and built up every part on the car. They are special built race cars, just as much so as an Indy car. They're not Chevys, Fords or Toyotas, they're Hendrick, Roush, and Gibbs.

You better believe it's about the money. Why wouldn't it be? They're not going to do it for free.

What can you say about a sport where the record for the premier event (Daytona) was set 47 years ago. Bunch of cars go around in circles and some theater that kind of resembles the Real Housewives of Atlanta. That about covers it for me.

The NHRA dragsters on the other hand still get faster and faster.

Been thinking on what could bring NASCAR back to using real cars but it would be hard and I am not sure fans would support it. If they could come up with the right set of rules I would pay my money to see STOCK cars race!

Corrected to say: Chevy, Ford & Toyota makes the total engines , noses and tails, EVERYTHING ELSE IS NAPCAR REGULATED!

I couldn't agree more. Let them run what the manufacturer builds with necessary safety features added. IMO we'd also get far more interesting cars in the showroom as a result as well!

Many innovations came out of racing just like war produces better weapons

The car dealers used to say about the cars drag racing and running on the race courses. Win on Sunday sell on Monday!:D
