Which do you use for sights on your EDC?

I voted Iron because that's what's there. Well a dab of orange nail polish too. Been doing that with J frames for 50 years. Why change now. But I guess I really only see the front blade at 15 yds. Blade and gutter at 25. Any closer and it's just a point.

I was RO for 18 years and practiced a lot on multiple targets, very fast point shooting. It works, free bullets help.

Free ammo is good, in fact great! When I was teaching in the Corps, I was firing about 50K of rounds a year. Now my hands are paying for it as Arthur visits often.

Oh yeah. I got it in the trapezoidal bones at the base of both thumbs. Did a lot of support hand too. This is why I only shoot guns that line up perfectly with my wrist/arm. Turning the wrist to line up a shot is no longer an option. BTW, that email never came through.

Don't need sights.

If assailant is far enough away that I can raise my gun to arms length, and have enough time to acquire sight picture, without fear of his grabbing it, I probably shouldn't be shooting.

One exception: any stranger in my house gets shot, regardless of range. But since that is most likely to be at night/in the dark, I won't be able to see the sights, anyway. For home defense, I do like a big bright dot front sight.

I think that's how many of us roll. Night sights work well with almost no light. I've tested mine in total darkness. The problem I see here is not being able to see your target clearly enough to shoot. I solved that one with a light on my P30. SD pistols in your home needs lights. Illuminate the target before you shoot.

I sent you a PM.

Only two humans in my house at night, Since I know where they are (me and the wife) all others are fair game.

No choice for "Night Sights"?
EG Trigicon, etc,?
My first choice for sure!

Sorry! I tend to see night sights as iron sights (the glow isn't obvious during the day). Additionally, irons encompass everything from patridge to Bachman ramp, to Red Ramp/ White Outline, to McGivern bead, to every flavor of fiber optic and tritium night sights.

Whatever the factory stuck on them, with a dash of orange nail polish as needed.

If I need something else? Well, I was having a bad day already.

With absolutely no disrespect to CajunBass I do believe that it's the geezer old fart crowd who came up using red/orange nail polish on their sights. That was about the only "modification" allowed on your model 10 with maybe a grip change, if you saved the originals.

I started with the brightest red I could find. Years later my wife found some nearly florescent ORANGE that I have been using ever since.

No red dot needed.

Food for thought on OP.

I prefer RDO with irons. Best of both.
The likelihood of EDC use at distance is probably low, but I shoot more RDO equipped than irons only nowadays.
Just staying with what I'm used to consistently seeing/using.

10-4, Lost. I solved the problem with nightlights. About 5 of them. Pretty dim, but enough light to identify my son, the only possible person who could be in my house legitimately. Anyone who doesn't look like my son gets shot.

We often get tangled up in philosophy of use.
Because we are under a marketing barrage at a high and steady rate.
Not only gadget sellers but trainers all too willing to take your money in exchange for teaching you the "enlightened way".

Pretty soon it sounds like a good idea to make a bullseye target pistol out of your self defense carry pistol. I get that. But just getting it doesn't mean that I'm going to fall for it.

If I need an RDO to hit out to 25 yards then what I really need to do is a hard reset on the central processor.....what am I doing engaging if my "threat" is 25 yards away? Sure, you can have all sorts of wet dream scenarios that involve a gang of drug fueled zombies....but really? You're not trying to explain to your wife why you spent the money....you're talking to an old street cop who knows better. Your threat is going to be in that 7 yard zone and you're most likely not going to even have the time to raise your pistol up to sight.

RDOs and weapons lights have their place on the practice range. Not on a civilian defense pistol. If these devices help you to enjoy shooting sports then that's all the justification that you need. Go for it.
