A Pucker Moment at the Gun range Model 52-2

Ok I have not fired the 52 in a while and I know it has a 2 and change lb trigger so I flip the safety on when I charge a round in as if I do it on an empty chamber the hammer will fall sometimes when the slide goes to lock up but it fell on a charge with full mag today never done that before took the saftey off and cocked the hammer to shoot and had a slam fire 2 rounds
when I pulled the trigger so I cleared the gun and put it away
it appears something is out of adjustment perhaps , I have no problem working on my pistols but I have no experience with the 52 any help would be appreciated where to start

You've got a serious case of hammer follow. This is probably because Bubba decided to lighten the trigger pull by removing metal from the surfaces where the sear and hammer engage each other.

You need Don Kostanski, donk52, on the Forum. He used to build these guns at the mothership. Send him a nice PM. David Sams, in Virginia, is also competent to diagnose and work on these guns.

I am good about muzzle downrange at all time , Occasionally I see
folks holding the slide and racking the gun pointed right at the stall nextdoor that my friend is Scary and I go fetch the Range officer for 40 lashes for the idiot

Congratulations on your good gun handling skills! Yes, with a lot of shooters, there would have been two (or more) full auto rounds going places other than down range.

Without pontificating, This is an unsafe condition.

Either retire the weapon, or have it repaired.

Personally, it is a fine old pistol... I would have it repaired.

Just a hint, bullet holes hurt.

Very likely the cause, but why someone would feel the need to try and improve on the factory trigger is beyond me.

I would also want to hear from Donk52 for an opinion but if he cannot be located, it might pay off to simply do a little bending of the sear spring while you bounce around online searching for a new old stock sear spring.

My Model 52-2 was purchased used but in excellent condition and looked to have been fired very little. The trigger pull measures 2 lbs 4 oz. on my Lyman digital gauge. I have not touched the adjustment but I sure wouldn't want it any lighter. I engage the safety when chambering a round or reloading just to err on the side of caution.

My 1982 M52-2 likes to lose trigger weight even though all the springs have been replaced and the sear spring bent to make weight. The next time I take it all apart I will replace the sear spring with one from another model to try to get the trigger above 3 pounds. Since I use other pistols for Bullseye it is a rainy day project.

I've been in touch with Capt Bob about this, he PM me. I'm waiting for a reply, but I'm away from my computer more, lately. Something like this could be a few different things from trigger adjustment to sear, spring, hammer wear. Wish I could get my hands on some of these problem guns. By the way, spec on the trigger pull is, pick up 2lbs, fire at 2.5lbs., we used weights back then.
