Question: If your very next handgun acquisition couldn't be one of our beloved 3rd Gens, what would it be and why?

I'll explain later why I'm asking, but for now, I'd like to know what your first choice would be. :D

It can be new or used, pistol or revolver, S&W or any other maker. :)

But it can't be something you already own... :p ... got that? :D

"Nothing at all" *is* a perfectly acceptable answer, but only if you truly would give up collecting/acquiring for good if 3rd Gens were suddenly off the table.

Ready? :) Let's roll!!! :p

Decided awhile back that I don't "need" anything...... bases are covered......... so I'm not searching for anything.......

My last several purchases have been ...... what I call "gunshop saves" or "targets of opportunity"...... Smiths are pretty rare in the LGS's I stop at.....so if I see something that needs saved (to pass on to a collector at the next NE Ohio Bunch "Bunching") or something unique at a really great price......

TTSH......OK a 3" blue Model 13 or a 3" 19 (at a "they don't know what they have" price) are the only things I can think of that would more than just temp me.........

Wow! ;) I'm not even sure I could survive without two basic essentials: 1) My Budget, and 2) My Want Lists! :D

Ahhh! :) That's better. :D

The next acquisition that I'm debating with to myself is a SIG P229 in .40S&W. I already have four .40's, so it's not like I really need another. The only item that would preclude that purchase would be the availability of a S&W 4006 or 45-- variant.

By coincidence, yesterday I got to try my first Sig 229 in .40 at the indoor range I recently joined via a Groupon. :) While I loved the feel and the trigger (and everything else about it), the damn thing jammed so many times that I had to take it back to the front desk and trade for a Glock 22. :( I was so disappointed. :o

It appears (to my old, untrained eyes) to have been a worn or bad magazine... which I'm finding is not at all uncommon with these completely beat-to-Hell range guns.

But other than that, I was ready to take out my charge card and go for the gusto! :) I liked it that much! :D

Think I would definitely check out a snubby .38. Like the Ruger 101 but a S&W would also be a possible choice. Haven't had a revolver since 80. Yep it was a Model 19. kickin my a** for the stupid trading!

I had a chance over the summer to snag a slightly used (like brand new!) Model 442 for a song. :) But stupid, stupid me, I was in a hurry that day and the shop owner was chatting his head off with some buddy and ignoring me like I wasn't even standing there. I couldn't out-wait the seemingly endless chat and had to leave.

Long story short, I called back that evening to put it on reserve and it was gone. :( He who is in a rush sometimes loses. :o Haven't seen a snubby deal anywhere near half as good since. :(

Sufferer of 3rd Genitis!

Hi, My name is John, and I am a Fan of the S&W 3rd Gen. 45's!
My safe contains a ANIB 4566TSW, 4566, 4516.

If I had to choose a replacement for any of these three, it would have to be a variant of the Sig P220 line of pistols.

The P220's are a Very Good Modern version of these Fine Pistols.

:)

Model 64 and Ruger LC9s

Well, since I'm broke again I won't be getting anything very soon. Just bought a nickel Md 59. However, here's what I would like and I'm being very realistic and not just dreaming. Two guns come to mind.

The first would be a 4 inch Model 64. I really like shooting .38 and a stainless 64 would be perfect. I wouldn't worry much about wear and tear and I would be able to ease up on my Md 14 and 15, that I baby every time I shoot them. I also prefer the fixed sights and overall look of the 64.

The other gun would be my first polymer striker fired gun. I've been thinking about getting a modern compact CCW that I could easily replace tomorrow if necessary. It's a gun that I could CCW, holster or heaven forbid even lose. My current carry guns are all out of production and not easily replaceable not to mention the great expense. Right now I'm looking at the Ruger LC9s and the S&W Shield.

No question about that. :) I only wish the P227 were legal in my moonbat state... but a P220 is not a bad consolation prize. :D

I have been eyeing a Ruger SP 101 with a 2+ inch barrel. Don't need another snubby but I just kinda like the feel of the thing.

3" 13/65. Guess if i had to choose 1 or the other I'd go with the 13
Lots of love here today from the "team" for small (snub) to mid-sized revolvers. :D

Have no notion of buying anymore guns right now but this would be my next purchase:

DAN WESSON POINTMAN 1911 in 9mm

Okay, the first 1911 entry of the day! :) But in 9mm!

This is one of the things I was most interested in today... i.e., how many 3rd Gen'rs would look to a new/newer/newish 1911 as first choice in an alternative buy. :)

If I COULDN'T buy a 3rd gen what would I buy?

That's a broad answer man!

Colt 6920
HK USP 45
HK p2000 9mm
HK VP9
Sig P320
Sig 228
Sig 226 9mm (German)
Sig P227
Glock 30/s
Dan Wesson 1911
Kahr CW45 (maybe)
S&W 27/28 in 3 - 4 in barrel
S&W 19/66 2in barrel
S&W 10 snubby
Ruger Security six 3in barrel 357
Ruger SP101 snubby 357
Broomhandle Mauser
AK47 Vepr 6.5 Grendel
UZI
A real MP40 :)
Colt AR 9mm
HK MP5

And this is after I erased those that I already have

{large snip!}
And this is after I erased those that I already have

Oh Lordy!!!

Could you please narrow it down to just one? :D

A S&W Model 99 in .45ACP of course! ;)

Okay, just kidding.

Model 10-something 3"
Ruger 345. That always got very good reviews, even though it wasn't in production that long. Reminds me in some ways of the 457.
Walther CCP. Sadly, we'll never see one in MA, but the one I fondled at the NRA Meetings was very nice. If I move while I'm still young enough to hold and shoot a gun, it could (gasp) replace a 3913 in my carry rotation. Maybe. Sort of.
