Hello friends,
Thank you all so very much for your kindness and support. Sandi had her right side biopsy yesterday. It was an MRI-guided biopsy and she was there almost two hours. Five samples were taken and the Radiologists weren't encouraged by what they saw, as the spots were quite bright on the MRI.
An interesting bit of information: Apparently fibrous adenoids can show up as cancer. This is especially common just before a woman's period, as the estrogen levels are highest then. We were hoping that the first MRI results were due to this, but it doesn't sound like it.
If there is a bright side to having cancer in both breasts, it will be that a bilateral mastectomy would eliminate having to continually worry about the right side after having the left mastectomy. This will make it over and done.
The worry, of course, is the lymph nodes and whether the cancer has metastasized to other regions. If it is just contained to the breasts, she's looking at about a week of radiation treatment after surgery. If it's in the lymph nodes or other sites, we're looking at chemotherapy.
We should have the results of the right biopsy by Monday evening. I'll post again when I have more information.
Thank you again so very much for your kindness, prayers, and well-wishes. It means more to us than my words can express.
David
