At our recent IDPA Club Championship Match we had 103 shooters. Only three chose to run this match with a revolver.
Two of us with SSR (Speedloaders) and one ESR (.45 Moon Clips).

Overall I finished 51 out of 103, which is not to bad for a middle 60's old man with glasses running against all the Glocks and 1911's.

I was shooting a Competition modified 66 and it did very well as usual. I still have problems with rounds during a reload not dropping all the way in and I have to nudge them down to close the cylinder.

I know brushing chambers between stages would help but when you are shooting and working as an SO at the same time, it is near impossible to stop and go to a "Designated Safe Area" to do this operation, and keep the squad moving.

Some folks would be better served putting aside their tupperware and learning/relearning the DA revolver.

Good show.:)

(This coming from a 1911-devotee) I'm always impressed when someone can operate a revolver more or less as fast as a reasonably skilled semi-auto shooter.

I know it CAN be done - I've seen it - but it's not easy; and all I can say is "hats off to you".:)

There is just something fun about shooting a wheel gun. Like I told some young guys the other day. I shoot a wheel gun and weld with sticks. At a local match the other day I said I was going to shoot my wheel gun, one young lady said what is that.

LOL with a big smile.:D

I can visualize this as if I were there.:)

Perhaps you could have told her that you were a curator for a famous museum and that you'd signed-out an extremely valuable old firearm for actual testing.;)

At my club's monthly classifier, I came out on top with my 686.

Granted it was only 6 shots for the stage.

Below is the classifier:

As Jeff Cooper once said. Wheelguns are real guns. Congratulations on proving that us old guys with revolvers still have it.

Pretty fancy shooting from where I stand.
I struggle along with pistols and revolvers, just trying to put holes in paper. I've got a loooong way to go, and running short on time.
Hat's off to all contestants!
Good shooting, Glen!!

I once read of a survey done of IDPA shooters as to what they carry concealed or off-duty when not competing or working. All but one or two were carrying 5-shot J-frame revolvers.

Some gun writer did the survey, forgot which magazine. Sorry for the poor memory.

I did an informal survey at the dinner table after a state IDPA championship match, and 7 out of 7 of us were carrying J frames. Two of us had shot revolvers in the match that day, and five had shot semi-automatics. Two were also police officers.

I hear it more lately that "revolvers should be dropped from IDPA because police all carry semi-automatics." First, IDPA is not a police-only competition, and second, lots of off-duty police and other folks carry revolvers daily.

I shoot a stock Model 64, with a dab of orange paint on the front sight, out of my old Hoyt break front holster.

Except for reloads, I can shoot it as fast as I can my autos. I use speed loaders.

I still say real cops carry revolvers.

Frank, I've had the same issue, both with rounds not dropping all the way in and with getting away from the squad to brush the chambers for just the same reason.

One thing that I've found that seems to help is to use nickel plated brass. They are a little more slippery than brass.

These youngins! :shakes head: lol Im 21 and I carry a 629 Classic .44. love my wheel gun. :D

Nice shooting. Do you find that the recessed cylinders hinder your reload any? Are your chambers chamfered? I too am curious about your mods.

My cylinder isn't recessed. The chambers are chamfered. I've had an action job done my Mike Carmoney. I've also installed an Apex Tactical rear sight blade. I will have the front sight blade changed out after I get my backup gun back from the gunsmith.
