I like them to look like this...

WOW! That reminds me of those big steaks the boys were getting in the movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" Now that is what I call a sho' nuff steak! Thinkin' about that reminds me of the great line Pat O'Brien had when Jimmy Stewart picked up the steak off the floor to keep Tom and Liberty from slappin' leather. He stooped over and picked it up and the well lit news paper editor and publisher rocked back on his heels and with a wave of his hand announced: "Law and order....rising up out of the gravy and the mashed potatoes!"

Just a point of order. Vegans do not eat any animal products at all. Some Vegetarians will eat fish, but not any sort of "meat", even poultry.

The other point of order, is that I like my steak Medium-Well, which is not on the poll.

I tried a new method of grilling my steak the other night. I covered it lightly with Wesson oil and then put on McCormick Montreal Steak seasoning (also lightly). I then cooked it for five minutes on each side. It was Medium-Well, but still juicy, not dry. It had just the right amount of seasoning too. I think the cooking oil made the difference.

I'm not a great cook, but I am learning.

I use the same mix of cooking oil and seasoning on roast potatoes and they come out great.

I like mine cooked just enough to have a grain in it all the way through. You cut it, and it just glows.
Vegans don't eat fish or chicken either. They won't even wear leather, or eat cheese. Sounds like prey to me.

Medium well. I used to like medium rare until I spent 8-1/2 years working in the restaurant business. I have seen what happens in the kitchens of even the finest restaurants. I want to make sure any germs or bacteria that are on my food (and believe me, they ARE on the food) are cooked until dead and harmless.

I once heard of a restaurant patron who requested his steak be prepared such that "a good veterinarian could have it up and mooing in 5 minutes".

A friend of mines father was a meat cutter for about 50 years. He would never eat anything that wasn't cooked to within an inch of it's life. She still cooks her meat the same way. Except for her Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner. Which is delicious. Which reminds me St. Patrick's Day is coming pretty soon. Mmmmm.

Vegans are just weird. My wife and I went to a Vegan wedding a few years ago. The food was inedible, it was like eating lawn clippings and twigs.

Well, I guess for a lot of us "raw" / "rare" guys...........

Ignorance is Bliss.....and I'm Ok with that.

I love it when people that argue the fine points of pistols/revolvers and magazine/clips argue about cooking terms!

Since I saw a case of Mad Cow Disease while on business in London, it's Well Done All The Way! I wouldn't wish that illness on my worst enemy. Well done please, thank you!

Cooking does not kill the Mad Cow prion. Stay away from eating brains and spinal tissues to avoid Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy.

I like mine cooked completely. I order it well, but if it comes out medium well, I'm still good with that. With all the food borne illnesses out there, I'm not taking any chances. FDA and USDA both recommend an internal temperature of not less than 145 degrees.

Medium rare for me and the boys. Lady Koz is more of a rare lover. It's easy enough when cooking a london broil or a standing rib roast, etc. as the center will be more rare than the ends. I have to pull my wife's steaks off the grill a couple minutes early though.

A little side note if I may:

I want to take this opportunity to quote a man that I have admired and respected and trusted for decades. In my view if he said it then it's right out of the bible. Although he was paid to say it I know that he would never have said it if he didn't really believe it, pay or no pay.

Paul Harvey.

I listened to his syndicated radio program that used to come on at noon every day and many's the time I heard him go over this. He represented the American Beef Council or what ever it was called. I may not get it word for word but his message was this:

The human body is designed to digest beef. Human beings were intended to eat meat. This is evidenced by the design of the human jaws and teeth and digestive tract. There are many sources of protein but the protein found in beef is the closest and most compatible protein to humans that there is. And no other protein is as good for human beings not even the protein found in milk and other dairy products."

Ya gotta eat the meat, 'yall. It's what's for dinner! ;)

I agree with the concept that some people in America eat too much red meat. But like anything else we eat, moderation is always best and excess is always potentially dangerous. Eating a 2 lb hunk of meat every day is obviously ridiculous. But a 6oz or 8oz steak a couple of times a week is definitely not a bad thing.

I've never been clear on why some people believe that it is healthy to abstain from all meat. You are cheating your body out of one of the main sources of nutrition that it was designed for. And I've NEVER seen or heard anything scientific or otherwise to convince me or make me believe it for a second.

Shrubbery is fine if you're a rabbit but man is and always has been a carnivore. In terms of the movie "Jurasic Park" a "Meatasaurus". :D

It must be nice to be able to afford steak... :o

We prefer our Oscar Meyer beef bologna medium...since it's already pink all over, we mainly go for hot.

What it comes down to a lot of times is PRIORITIES. With us it's a common topic of conversation: Should we blow the money on food and rent or save it for an emergency?

But really, we just make a little "adjustment" now and then so we can have a nice bone in rib-eye. That is pretty high up on the list of priorities...along with bacon and ammo. ;)

Just long enough to kill the microbes for me thank you! If you ever find somewhere that does a "midnight steak" take advantage of it. You'll usually pay out the nose, but once in a lifetime is worth it. Hotter than heck grill, literally 6-10 seconds on each side, sears the meat a beautiful brown on the outside with "midnight" on the inside.

I'm a bit picky. Medium-well.

ETA:
Ideally, anyway. If it's a little bloody or a little burnt it won't hurt my feelings much.

I get 3 in. cowboy steaks rib-eyes -End cut -8 min. per side on the Bar-Q-and burn the top side with a Plumbers torch. Comes out rare but burnt .
PS. Just put brown sugar on both sides before cooking.
