A very interesting wallet holster

I used one for years to carry a Beretta 22 but they outlawed them apparently a few years back in Fl...or at least so I hear.

Dont you know leather on a gun is dangerous FT ?

I will never understand which versions are legal and which ones aren't. But I agree it did look pretty good. I have an old zipper wallet that looks like the same could be done to it. Or it doesn't look all that difficult to make in the first place.

That one pictured is the so-called illegal wallet holster. It's not illegal per se. The gun alone is legal. The wallet empty is nothing. The gun hidden in the wallet is illegal until and unless the owner obtains a $5.00 "any other weapon" tax stamp from the BATF.

There are many wallet-type holsters for little guns that are not Class III with the gun in place because the gun always shows. What I mean is, the slide of a pistol is above the leather and obvious or some other part of the gun is revealed. The Hi-Standard wallet holster is, as far as I know, the only one that completely conceals a pistol (except for the trigger) top to bottom. BATFE ruled that to be an AOW requiring a tax stamp.

Why do I know this?

Because I have one.

Prior to leaving a small town PD back in the late 70's, several of us carried a Raven .25 auto in a "wallet holster" as a backup . I can't recall the brand name of the wallet holster, but it did work well. Once I got to the bigger PD, nothing below a .380 was authorized for a back up, so the Raven and wallet holster was sold. I was surprised to read that some states outlaw this type of holster and or the FED's are involved.

Bobby I looked at that one, and it seemed to me that it might have started life as a nice tooled zip up wallet, and then some one with a bit of skill modified it to conceal one of the High Standard Derringers.

Just my guess.

I've seen about 10 versions of holsters for the High Standard derringer over the years. That is the best I've seen! I have both a HS in 22 Mag and an American Derringer in 38 Special, and have yet to find a holster that makes them worth carrying. I have been told the criteria for wallet holsters is if you have to remove to reload it is Class III. While the little DeSantis wallet holster for the LCP and others can be loaded and the slide jacked and remain in the holster. The problem with getting the paperwork back on that holster would be not using it for the six to eight months it took to get the paperwork back from the BATF&E. Ivan
