Does anyone have any idea what the abbreviations "Dh," "Hh," and "Tc" in this 1961 handgun catalog are supposed to mean? (see attached photo)

The only words beginning with those letters that may be gun related would be "Defense", "Hunting" and "Target (shooting)". Have no idea what the small h or c indicates.

I was thinking the same thing,
Or maybe Hh is Highway Patrolman heavy?
Tc perhaps Target Combat Magnum?
Just guessing here

My guess

Dh- Defense Handgun
Hh - Handgun Hunting / Hunting Handgun
Tc - Target Competition

Only a guess.

Those are great guesses. Unfortunately, unless we can figure out what handgun catalog that is, and dig up a copy, we may never know.

We'll, it is not from the Smith & Wesson 1961 catalog, for sure. Looks like to me it's from a handgunners book, like Stebbins or Askins, but I checked several and can't find it. Ayoob's book isn't sourced very well so no joy there, either.

Just FYI:
$120 in 1961, $1224.52 in 2023

I guess the latter figure would be a bargain for a NiB M27 manufactured circa 1961.

That catalog page was copied from one of Massad Ayoob's books. He is a forum member. Why not ask him what catalog/ gun book that catalog page was copied from? Probably "Gun Digest" or similar of the period.

I actually bought a reproduction of the 1961 Smith & Wesson catalog on ebay, thinking maybe that was the one. That wasn't it, though. It seems to be some kind of general handgun catalog, not just a S&W catalog.
