I picked up an early m&p .38 special that needs lots of tlc. According to the serial number #576610 my standard catalog puts its birthday around 1930ish I've never worked on an early smith and need to ask about disassembly of the cylinder. I'm assuming that you unscrew the ejector rod with the yoke still on but would appreciate some input.
Thanks…Tom

You assume correctly!

Put a set of wooden vise jaws in the bench vise.
Place at least 2 empty cases into the cylinder chambers.
Close the vise on the ejector rod tightly
Unscrew (RH Thread) the cylinder from the Ejector Rod.

..Or you can use one of those Neat-o little clamp tools sold just for doing the same thing.

The Rod & the Yoke then slides out the front'
.
The Ratchet/Star pulls out the back.
