for 128.00 I added the new streamlight HL-X

Works great. The only issue is the programming isn't as they advert. Was hoping to the have the HIGH/STROBE/LOW option but its a no go.

looked at the programming instructions. 9 button pushes no more than 0.4sec apart is some fast pushes. Then #10 for 1 sec. Did you start from off, and do the right # of pushes?

I can change them, but it doesn't offer the above mentioned option as stated in the sales material.

It gives you:
HIGH only
HIGH/Strobe
LOW/HIGH

See 3 different Serial #'s on Amazon, all listed as HL X and all cheaper than what you paid.

On an AR for SD, generally speaking I think folks would do well to consider a single high output on/off flashlight rather than a Ninja Kaliedescope 1,000 function in one flashlight.

Ditto (target illumination) ....................... + a hand held light (searches)....... + a single AA or AAA light in your pocket.. which is the one you will use 99% of the time

Have a TLR3 (100 lumens) on a M&P9 and a TLR1 (300 lumens) on my Beretta 9mm carbine.

Generally, when I sneaky around the house in my undies with my AR, I use the strobe function as a disco light.
Its great fun after scaring my GF out of bed. Looks like a real disco.

The low/high programming is perfect.
The High is perfect. So its works perfectly. No confusion on switching.

I think people would be better off using a designated weapons light instead of mounting a flashlight. I have weapon lights on my home defense guns and keep a high output flashlight with each to prevent pointing a loaded gun at a friendly in the middle of the night when I forget I have guests.

So what is a weapons light for an AR as you describe?

SO I either should purchased a enforce light.........or I should carry an AR in one hand and flashlight in the other, OR
I have no light at all cause the bad guys will shoot me first cause the light is a target......OR I just do *** I want and not listen to the peanut gallery.

Excellent advice, I will try it all.

Pretty much sums it up..................or use this as a reason to go buy another S&W handgun!!!!!!

I own two Streamlight's, and plan on buying another. NONE are or will be mounted on a weapon. As was correctly stated above, it is not a good plan to give your adversaries something to shoot at, muzzle flash is quite enough and even it is hidden as much as possible.

I am not a fan of lights on pistols but I do have one on my primary AR15. Training with any light is very important. You do not have to point a mounted weapon light at someone in order to illuminate a room.

Honestly if you are happy I am happy for you. No need to get approval from us to feel good about your purchase.

Since an AR requires two hands (except Arnold Schwarzenegger) I wouldn't recommend occupying one hand holding a light during a threat situation. However, a handheld light is useful post threat for general illumination needs, inspecting injuries... that type of thing.

IYou do not have to point a mounted weapon light at someone in order to illuminate a room.

Sure. Light bouncing off the floor, ceiling and walls will generally light up a room well enough to identify friend or foe no matter what direction the light is pointed. Outside is a different matter.

Phil's comment using the term "threat situation"..... made me pause......

For the record ...IMO.. there is a difference in how you go checking on a bump in the night and "clearing a house"....or finding yourself in the middle of a "threat situation"

But as WVSig stated ...... whatever makes you happy is ok by me.

Just try not to illuminate any officers responding to your 911 call with a light mounted on an AR! It could hurt!!! :D
