I have a 29-8 and a 642-2CT and both have a number, sort of manually added on the inside of the cylinder crane, made up of dots like someone used an awl.

Is the cylinder and crane build with the frame, separated and brought back together again?

This number is not part of the serial number.

Sorry, I can't get a good picture with the PowerShot.

Assembly numbers are placed on selectively fitted parts to make sure these parts are used together during final assembly after finishing.

So are these numbers used before serial numbers are assigned?
Is the same number also on the frame somewhere?
Thanks,
Bill
