advice on breaking in a new 686

I've had my 686 for three years and I've fired about 7 gazillion rounds through it, about 90% 38s. To date the gun looks exactly as it did the day it came to me from the factory except that it's cleaner. As for lockup, end shake, etc., not a sign of a problem. At the rate I'm going the gun will probably need some work in about 300 years.

Earmuffs used with plugs is a good idea. Like any other product there is a lot of crap out there and you get what you pay for. I like Peltor earmuffs. They cost a little more but they are worth it. The throw away foam plugs work best for me. Stay away from the plastic kind. The foam plugs are made to be rolled between your fingers until the diameter is small enough to fit inside your ear. Then they expand to provide a tight seal.

Just my opinion
