Airweight frame CRACK???

Go on one of the gun auction web sites. They have lists of FFL who are willing to do a transfer and have the fees listed. In my area prices run around $20. My LGS considers it easy money.

I just found GB's FFL finder...

Someone needs to make this a thread and a mod needs to make that a stick to the top. That is some crazy valuable info that should be known to all of us. If I had known that a few days ago I wouldn't have called the half dozen places that I knew would rip me off...

The GCA of 1968 requires that all new serial number guns go to an FFL. Every once in a while a gun company will make a mistake and send the new unregistered serial number directly to the owner. This only becomes a problem if the gun is later used to commit a crime.

Many states also have hand gun registration laws that add layers of BS to the new serial number.

In Illinois every time your dealer calls you in for your Bradley Check, Illinois State Police keeps a record. When the number of approvals reaches a certan level you get a home visit from state police or BATF.

IT'S BACK!!!

New frame, new barrel, new yoke, same everything else. Awesome, I am so happy she's home again and as good as new!

Thank you, S&W!!!

All's well that ends well. Not only does S&W have a happy camper, but they probably know that the 10 or 15 folks that posted to or read this thread now have a better feeling about S&W. Good customer service is worth its weight in gold.:D

If this is the "classic" crack, what is the classic cause of the problem in a revolver that is rated for +P ammo that has not been abused ? ?

Improper barrel installation (over-torque). That's the most common explanation you'll hear.

Aaaaah, thanks for the explanation Photoman. That being said, one would hope that S&W would make good for these revolvers--no questions asked.........

That's pretty much what they did for me. Other than the crack and the wait, it was pretty painless.

Yup. I've yet to hear the first person relate an experience other than that after an Airweight barrel-installation crack.
