Am I being too picky?

I picked up a M&P 9 last week, and I really do like it. However, I noticed that the engraving on the slide is not great.
The gun shoots fine, no issues so far, but this cosmetic flaw is bothering me. So, I thought I'd get an outside opinion. Am I being to picky, or would you guys complain about this too?

I would probably soak it in Hoppe's No. 9 then clean the remainder of the white out of the marking. I'd prefer it that way anyway.

In my opinion, yes. I don't expect custom level work on a mass produced item. Maybe I'm not picky enough?

The white in the engraved areas was me, I put it there so the bumps and roughness stood out more in the picture. The engraving is bumpy and jagged like it was done with a dull tool.

I agree, just shoot it. If it shoots as it should then just enjoy it for why you bought it.

Did you look it over carefully before purchase and not notice this "cosmetic flaw"?

If the defect is something that is rough enough to catch your clothes or abrade a holster, or it is sharp enough it might rough up or tear skin, I would return the gun for service. Otherwise, I'd hope I wouldn't worry about it, but it's your gun. Ultimately, if it really bothers you, better try to get it fixed.

I haven't handled enough M&Ps to comment. All I can say is my M&P9 2.0 5"barreled gun has no cosmetic issues or functional issues. Don

I didn't, and I don't. No clue what mine says or how it says it, other than the bark and bite towards the target (paper and other).

Its your pistol though. You say its new and it bothers you.
Give S&W a call and send them that pic. More than likely
the'll send you a ticket to return it. They will probably replace
the slide under warranty.

It actually has more metal than others. I'd keep it and shoot +P+ out of it.

Here's my M&P over a year old over 1K rounds through in and out of a Kydex holster.

I can see the same thing on my slide I guess but not with the naked eye. I had to do 2X magnification with my iPhone camera to see it.
To my naked eye it looks great.
I don't know I guess it's laser etched?

When I clean after a range session I coat the slide with a Rem Oil cloth let it sit for a few minutes then wipe it down.

I was thinking what a lot of you seem to be saying. It shoots great and even though it's "big" I do carry it. I have about 500 rounds through it since I bought it, and I actually love this gun. Just sometimes I get a little picky, thanks for setting me straight.

It would bother me too.

A lot of the enjoyment that I get from my guns is how they look. I don't care if it's a "plastic" gun - I still want mine to look nice in my eyes.

I've had my M&P 40 full size about 12 years or so, and never paid attention to the engravings. It's not a carry gun for me, and only out of the safe for range trips.

The light engravings wouldn't bother me, as it's one of my favorite target pistols.
