Have been researching my pre-war .357 Magnum. The gun was owned by James C (Doc) White. Doc had quite the law enforcement family. Father Robert was for many years sheriff of Travis County, Texas. Doc was a Texas Ranger, Austin Mounted Policeman, mounted Customs Agent, Army Intelligence Officer during WWI, Prohibition Agent (had a partner named Tom Threepersons for a while) and finally an FBI Agent. Brother Tom was a Texas Ranger, an FBI Agent and a Warden in the federal prison system. Tom's son was also an FBI Agent. Brother Dudley was a Texas Ranger, Houston Policeman, and a mounted Customs Agent. Dudley's son was also a Texas Ranger. Brother Coley was a deputy sheriff in Travis County and later became sheriff, following in his father's footsteps.

Turned up another tidbit about Tom White. He was the agent in charge of the Osage Indian murder case. The FBI's first big case in 1925. The story is in "Killers of the Flower Moon" national bestseller by David Grann. Has also been made into a movie with the same title starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. Enjoyed the movie, reading the book now. So far an excellent read.

David, I've been following your posts about this family for some time with great interest...I keep hoping my research eventually turns up a law enforcement connection of some kind to my "mystery gun," a 3.5 inch Model of 1950 Target gun in .44 Special...Thanks for continuing to post about your finds......Ben
