For those with smartphones, consider this a warning. A short while ago, I downloaded the Amazon App to my iPhone. I got a $5 discount for it, and it came in handy when ordering some Hoppe's Bench Rest 9. I went back and browsed other Hoppe's products - I needed a new pistol cleaning rod. I simply just viewed a few, but never bought any. A while later I got an email saying my order was being prepared - a Hoppe's Bench Rest Stainless Steel pistol cleaning rod at about $60. So I have to wonder, why is Amazon automatically buying things for me, and why in the name of Sam Hill does a basic Hoppe's cleaning rod cost sixty bucks! Thankfully they are cancelling the order and giving a refund, but still - be careful withe these silly apps!

The Amazon is usually a slick , smooth APP.
You do need to look at 'other buying options' before you pull the buy trigger.
But most likely you did pull the buy trigger.
Sometimes I'll do that just to see how much shipping a particular seller wants to charge me.
But then I'll cancel that purchase and look at another seller.
It never hurts to look at 'your orders' after you have been shopping for a while and before you go elsewhere.

Make sure you turn off the 1-Click Ordering. I think they are sneaky making that a default setting, making it easy to order something. I usually use the app to load up my cart and then go to smile.amazon.com to pull the trigger. That way some of their profit goes to a charity of my choice. Good luck.

Haven't had that issue...yet. My biggest annoyance is how pervasive they get with their ads. I'll look something up, and then for the next week that will show up in a side bar or at the bottom of my screen.

I don't do ANY banking by phone. Every time you add a device you make your checking account less secure.

If you have a Google account, or iCloud account linked to your phone, your information is already everywhere. Privacy and security are now illusions.

Back to the OP. ..ive had the amazon app for years without an issue like the one you described.

Not really. If it can be done on s phone it can be done on a PC. Your PC is no more or less secure. No one needs to hit your PC when they can go straight to the vendor. I know of 2 big vendors that recently have been hacked. Yahoo was hacked just this week.

Most places I know that have wifi have it password protected. That means you have to ask someone for it.

Yup, it was '14. It was "just weeks ago" that they finally admitted it.

Yahoo is now virtually worthless. ALL their customer data was compromised but for some reason credit cards and other financial stuff wasn't taken. They are claiming, rather lamely IMO, that the hack was "state sponsored". Anyone hoping their YHOO stock will go back up after a buyout is SOL in my opinion. Who's going to want a data company whose data is utterly and completely compromised?

When the 'they' hacked my email, they took it over and I couldn't get into my account.
Had a heck of a discussion with the Yahoos at Yahoo trying to close My ACCOUNT!
They wanted 'proof' it really was me yelling at them on the phone.
