AMMO AVAILABILITY

Learn to save. Learn to buy before you need things. Keep an extra case of ammo, bottled water, TP, paper towels, batteries and a host of other stuff on hand.

The rationale is very simple. Its cheaper. Those who complain about going to 4 stores looking for a box of 9mm, then don't buy it because of the expense have a problem. Just the fuel, time, and automotive expenses probably exceed the extra price.

Here's another truth of life. During normal times, you get a nice discount for buying in volume. During times of shortages, you pay more. Its your choice.

Always in the past, reloading components were pretty cheap to buy and store. Buying for storage during a shortage or crisis situation doesn't make much sense. Reloaders have always had an advantage.

Those who can't or won't bother with it can only get ammo when the loaded caliber they require is in stock. Then they can pay the price or go without. Reloaders can build the stuff they want. Primers and powder are exceptions, but everyone who reloads has a few pounds of powder (7000 grains to a pound, it makes an 8# keg of bullseye seem like a bunch, 7000 x 8 = 56000.) Hint, the working cast wadcutter loading is 3 grains. Even I don't stock 19,000 small pistol primers.

If you've got any loaded ammo, you've got a supply of cases. If you've got any sense, you can find lead to cast. You do have a bullet mold or two, don't you? Why not?

Since I don't own any ammo or guns (thanks to a tragic boating accident), I get lead to cast toy soldiers for my nieces and nephews and all the kids in the neighborhood.

Really, I do cast lead toy soldiers...
Well, I did purchase a silicone mold, really!

Richard; I've sent you an email with details. I don't have any interest in 7.62X39mm ammo.

Just how soon do you figure the panic will last???

It's been going on since Hilary announced she was running for the Hubbies' old job. And, since after the election it has been getting worse and worse so what does your crystal ball tell you?

Even online suppliers are much more picked over than I'd realized. It took me several hours and a number of attempts to find someplace with .38 S&W (not special) and .32 ACP in stock. Pretty hard times when most places are out of even those. Since .357 Sig also dried up (everywhere) I had to get more of that and some .44 Special.

Worked a gunshow in central Ohio over the weekend. Everyone was looking for .380 and .45acp. Seems to have run dry in this area.

Shot was up to $50.00 a bag. Now there is a guy selling shot for $21.00 a bag over on Trapshooters.com

Things will come back once all the hoarders get enough.

Our local Wal Marts got a shipment of ammo on Sunday and by mid day Monday most of it was gone. They had .38 Special, 9mm and .380 - no .45. I got some of the remaining 9mm and the clerk said I was lucky - they had received 2 cases and had 10 100count boxes left. They had plenty of 100 count .22 but no bulk.

Same here in Southern WI, I've got small quantities of .38 & 7.62X39 & .380 if somebody wants to barter for some DT or Win. SilverTip in 10mm?

Just wait a bit. When the panic subsides and the production capacity increases kick in, prices will likely plummet and you'll be able to find whatever you want.

And that's when they'll slap a 15% federal tax on it.

rburg is precisely right. been storing stuff for many years. never go caught without, even when there wasn't any. during the last primer shortage, i was about the only person shooting handguns at our local ikes because the rest of the members wouldn't buy any more than they had to have at any one time.

Even though some waly worlds don't sell guns, they all sell ammo or so I'm told.

Trucks come in every night and it's a matter of checking back w/them. They never know what caliber or if they're going to recieve any until it gets there.
