AMMO FOR 686 3 INCH

I was looking for commentary re 125+P (I use Godl Dot) vs. 158+P. Seems to me the gun shoots better with 158's, whether +P or regular pressure practice loads. Thought someone could enlighten me.

Try the Speer SB .357s. I promise, they're pussycats from a gun that big. They're nothing like hot 125 gr. .357s. They are dead nuts reliable expanders from my 1 7/8" 360. They are for certain expanders and good penetrators from short barrel guns IMO.

Other loads are something I'll let others comment on.

Hi,
The reason your 686 shoots better with 158 +Ps is Smith and Wesson designed most of their revolvers to shoot POA with 158gr ammo with a 4 inch barrel. Now, your three inch will still shoot POA with 158gr ammo from 10 to 15 yrds. Why not try the 158gr "FBI" LSWCHP 38+P load for protection. It will not recoil as bad as 357 ammo. If you insist on 357 go with Remingtons Golden Saber 125g HP. Very good round with a lot less recoil than the full power 357s.
Good luck,

Anyone have a favorite factory carry load in 38+P? Low recoil 357's?
In my short barrel 357's, depending upon which gun, I carry THESE in 38 Special+P. THIS is what I load in 357 Magnum.

If you're looking for a good light .357 Magnum round check into the Speer 135gr short barrel .357 Magnum ammo. They are rated at just under 1000 fps from a 2" barrel, a little more from a 3" barrel. It's an accurate ammo although it is costly.

I have my 686+ snub nose stocked with buffalo bore's tactical lite's 158 gr speer gold dots....

John!
