Ammo question.

I just recently purchased my M&P 9c last week. I could not find ammuntion anywhere (I know that is everyones problem right now.) My question is this: I found someone in the area selling Federal Champion 115 grain FMJ RN. I am supposed to meet him in the morning. $115 for 300 rounds. Should I do it or is that a rip off? Any info appreciated. Very new to this, so really am a noob.

To me that's a huge price hike. I'd pay $90. But that's just me.

That's not a real good price, but its not that bad either. It works
out to about thirty eight cents a round. If you can even find it
anywhere else, It probably won't be any cheaper. Have you tried
GilbertsGuns.com? When they have ammo its usually pretty
resonable. Hope this helps you!

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I have been looking online. Only thing I could find was +p+ which in my manual says not to shoot. I also could have order bulk 1,000 rounds (can't remember exactly what) on LuckyGunner for $600. Just can't afford that now.

I have been hitting all local shops daily with calls and nothing. I stop in a couple different Wal-Marts on the way home from work at about 7:30 am and nothing. Just getting frustrated. I think I might take the guy up on it. I would offer him $90, but I already talked him down to $115 from $150. I just want to go shoot my new gun!

Ok thanks. From some research it looks like you used to be able to get it at Wal-Mart for $20 (100 pack) Then I saw recently that it might have been $25 here. I guess beggers can't be choosers right now. Just was wondering if some of you more experienced shooters would pay that or not for that particular ammo, when there is nothing else to be found.

That comes out to about 38 cents per round. At a recent gun show in Fort Worth, I've seen some sellers asking close to 70 cents and higher per round for a box of 50, and they wouldn't negotiate. I did find a dealer with a few 1000-round cases of JHP and bought one which came out to roughly 27 cents per round. Ammo is very tight right now...sometimes you'll have to "bite the bullet", so to speak, and get it for what you can. Paying 38 cents per round isn't a great deal, but its not the worst deal that I've seen either.

Your range will probably sell you that for $15-18 per 50/box. He's asking close to $ 20.

If you just want to shoot, I'd get it, but I'd offer him $100 for it face to face. Then I'd keep that just in case and buy your 2 box limit at the range.

Clean & lube your weapon real well before you go shoot too.

Thanks for responses. Yeah problem is 2 of the ranges I found don't have any 9mm either. I didn't bother calling the 3rd I found. The range/dealer employee where I bought the gun said he thought in a couple weeks, but wasn't sure. Said he has been on a 9mm shooting freeze, but luckily he had more guns. I guess there was a near fight at one of the Wal-Marts I have been stopping at. IDK seems crazy.

Willing to wait? You might be able to get a deal. BUT you'd better be diligent in looking and snap it up when you find it.

For online shopping, you might look at this site: GunBot find 9mm ammo in stock. Someone else posted it and it seems to be pretty good.

DON'T by reloads. You never know what your getting.

That works out to $19.02 a 50 round box. Not bad considering the lack of availibility. You got a new gun and want to shoot it now...then bite the bullet ( sorry about that pun ) and buy the ammo. But only if its boxer primed and reloadable. Save your brass and start reloading. A set of dies and a Lee hand press makes you the master of your ammo supply. Out of all the shooters out there only a minority reload so finding components is somewhat easier than finding loaded ammo.

I just picked up a total of 750rds this week from a LGS and walmart. All 115grn FMJ. I paid a total $225. I try and save time by calling around and looking on walmarts website. It gets updated once they check in the ammo off their trucks. Good kuck!

A while back Fleet Farm ran an add for blazer brass 350ct for 79.99. Our local store has not had ammo in a long time so I ran across state lines. Bought 2 then went back in with my $10 off coupon and bought the 2 they had left. Right place right time. Definitely hard to find without the premium price. Good hunting

Go for the deal. You have a new gun, and you want to try it out. Grab it while you can.

I concur with M&P45 about making sure you clean the gun well before you first range outing. I recently discovered FrogLube and recommend it highly, although it is somewhat unconventional as a weapons lube.

I did go ahead and take it. I also found some online that I promptly ordered. Now I am off to watch some YouTube videos on how to clean to clean gun properly. I don't wanna mess anything up, lol. Off to the local outdoor range on Wednesday! $8 all day, can't beat it!
