AMMO TALK

Yesterday while at the range I tested four 50 round boxes of WW Wildcat 22 LR ammo. It performed perfectly and printed on paper just like the Federal 22 LR ammo that comes in the 550 round brown box Value Pack.

I had some Wildcat laying around. I got it a few years ago in a WW wooden box at Cabella's.

So far, every 22 LR ammo I have used in my 15-22's 25 round mags has worked with the exception of low velocity (subsonic) match ammo which I typically use in my Anschutz target rifle.

These that work in my S&W M&P 15-22 are...

CCI BLAZER
WW Wildcat
Olin CMP White Box
Federal 550 Round Value Pack - Brown Box
Federal 535 Round Value Pack - Blue Box
Fiocci LR M 320 Match
Golden Eagle Target Eley Prime

The cleanest running ammo is the Fiocci from what I have seen.

In my opinion, those 22 LR cartridges with 40g bullet heads appear to be more accurate at longer distances than those with lighter bullet heads.

PMC Sidewinder Ammo

Bought some of this stuff today at the local shop. Ammo is about the only thing that they actually have priced decent, everything else is just absurdly marked up... anywho...

PMC Sidewinder .22LR
40 Gr. Solid
Lead RN and looks waxy

This stuff is sitting right next to the CCI Blazer and is in a dang near identical box(color scheme and design almost matching). I have a sneaking suspicion it is probably identical ammo. Will let you know how it shoots after I get back from the range tomorrow.

The PMC Sidewinder 500rnds for $23

The CCI Blazer is 500rnds for $20

So far, my 15-22 has been flawless on only one brand of ammo. Winchester 333/555 36 gr. HP. ($15.95 @ Wal Mart for the 555). I have over 500 rds through it, and so far not a single malfunction of any kind. Probably only a matter of time, but so far I'm impressed. It is also the most accurate of the ammo I have tried including:

CCI Mini-Mag (100 rds) - a number of FTFeed
CCI AR Tactical (100 rds) - even more FTFeed
Rem. Golden Bullet (solid) (50rds) - a few FTFeed
Rem. Golden Bullet (HP) (50 rds) - a few FTFeed

Today at the range in my one 10 rd mag, several times the rounds did not stagger. At first I reloaded the mag. Then, on several mags I left them just lined up in a row (first 5 or so rds from the top) and experienced no failures to feed.

So, for the price, so-far-flawless operation, accuracy, and easy availability, I'm sticking to Winchester 555 for now. It's also pretty clean ammo IMHO too.

try the winchester m-22... i find in general solid point ammo (with aguila interceptor being the exception) is more accurate esp on far distances.

I just ran 555 rounds of the Winchester "555" pack I got form Wal-Mart.

I had 2 problems... 1 round failed to fire, the other round was bent as it tried to load in the chamber.. Both of those were somewhere in the middle.. The target when finished was missing the 9 and X rings. I figured that accuracy is good enough for me.

ARMSCORE

ARMSCORE 36gr.HP,:D

Never heard of them before and I have only found them at "Sportsman's Guide" and "Cheaper Than Dirt". We tried them in an AR15-22 and a CMMG Sierra. Both rifles function flawlessly and they shoot Quarter sized 10rnd groups at 100ft.

We tried Federal Bulk Pack (Red Box) and they were all over the paper.
Going to take a long time to shoot up the remaining 3000rnds. of Federal with my S&W Kit Gun....Even with "Speed Loaders"

Range Report

PMC sidewinder grouped well at 25yrds...~ 1.5inches. Only had 2 malfunctions in the 500rnds and they were both cleared quickly with no major issues. Fun as hell to shoot this gun!

Bought a 500 round box of the Winchester HV ammo from academy today...Was not a good time. Kept having the rounds fail to chamber and be all bent up. Have to eject the mag and pull the round from magazine to clear. out of the 500rnds this type of malfunction happened about 12 times.

finished shooting today with some CCI blazer...bout 250 rounds. no problems. all in all i am happy and the CCI or PMC is probably what I will stick with shooting.

I have found that if you clean the feed ramp every 300 rds. or so, you shouldn't have a chambering problem, I just take a few q-tips with me to the range.

New M&P 15-22 owner here and thought I would check in with a brief range report.

Serial number starts with DWC5###. Cleaned and oiled the gun prior to going to the range.

I shot steel plates from 15 to 35 yards, so I can't comment strongly on accuracy, but I was able to put the shots where I wanted without hitting the no-shoot targets.

Federal 550 Round Value Pack (Wally-World) Load 750, 36grain, copper plated hollow point
approx 350 rounds - 0 FTF - 0 FTE

Federal 325 Round AutoMatch (Wally-World) 40grain solid lead
approx 100 rounds - 0 FTF - 0 FTE

CCI Mini-Mag HP - High Velocity, 36grain
approx 75 rounds - 0 FTF - 0 FTE

Winchester Super X - Super Speed HP 37 grains (X22LRHSS1)
approx 50 rounds - 0 FTF - 0 FTE

Overall, I am very happy. The gun seems to run on all types of ammo and the accuracy seems good.

Since I only get to the range every other week, I finished sighting in my Bushnell Throphy scope (1X28 Illuminated Red Dot) today 6/28/11, using Blazer 40gr. LRN. I went through about 100 rds. with no problems, this is the ammo I have used in my S&W 22-A. Since reading the threads here on the forum I came across a great place to purchase ammo, it is called Glen's Army Navy Store @ GlensOutdoors.com | Glen's Army Navy Store - Your Online Outdoor Store!, 500 rds. of Blazer 40gr. ammo for $14.95! Not a bad price at all, so for $39 I got 1,000 rds. about
.04 cents a piece.

Went to the local indoor range today, man was it hot in there probally about 85deg, anyways I bought a box of the CCI AR tactical ammo to try out and see how it performed, that stuff was amazingly accurate all shots touched each other at 50 yards, however I was kinda disapointed by the ammo as I had 2 FTF's in about every 25rd mag. The bullet would somehow get jammed causing it to bend. I have not had this kinda of problem ever using Federal bulk or the CCi Mini mags. anybody else try this ammo and have the same results?

Yes, numerous times and I quit using it. Has not happened with any other ammo. I also noted picking random rounds from the box, I could wiggle the bullet in the case.

CCI Tac.

I have burned through several bulk boxes of the CCI Tack ammo with my 15-22 and several other .22 arms.

I have had exceptional performance in all arms.

I love the stuff, except the price.

Now, I plink with Fed bulk pack and never had ANY failure at all with the 15-22. I guess I must be lucky.

I even have had reasonable luck with Rem GB, not crazy good, but OK.

Tried a lot of the other stuff, not as good luck as with Fed bulk, but pretty good considering the nature in general of all .22LR.

I have not tried or even found the new Win M-22, but look forward to do so.
Anyone really know if this stuff is just repackaged Dynapoint, Wildcat etc.?

As has been said a lot here, magazine loading is critical.I have also found cleanliness of both rifle and Mags helpful.

My .02 cents worth.

Had wiggle problems with a box of Win 555, lots of them were loose, some came apart in box, some on the way to chamber. Can't say that I would buy those again. I stick with federal 550 bulks, just the right price per quality ratio.

This isn't so much a accuracy issue but a bullet expansion question. Is anybody using the CCI MiniMag .22LR segmented ammo ? Seeing as there are no anti gun people on this forum I can talk about killing small animals ( gophers ) with my M&P 15-22. While I love the very reliable CCI MiniMag HP ammo I don't get the bullet expansion for the explosive kills I get with Remington Yellow Jacket HP ammo that I use in my bolt action .22 rifle. I can't seem to find a retailer selling the CCI MiniMag Segemented ammo although CCI does advertise on thier web site.

CCI BLAZER or FED 550

so i had a buddy go out to the range with me yesterday to help me break in the new OD 15-22. I had bought a couple of boxes of the CCI Blazer and he wanted to contribute to the ammo supply so he bought the Federal 550 pack from Wal-Mart. I have to say I was impressed with the Fed 550. It looked to be as well put together as the minimgs (no loose bullets and brass was in excellent shape) we had been shooting and we had zero failures all day.
Both ammo types shot tight groups and we had a blast. Sent over 1500rnds downrange between the 2 of us and it cost less than $60. You just cant beat it!

CCI Blazer $20-21 per 500
Federal 550 $18-19 per 550

either of these is what i will stick to from now on. they are inexpensive and have great quality.

i got some recently, it was labeled as CCI segmented HP (not labeled as mini mags). it came in a small cardboard box as opposed to the slider pack the other cci stuff comes in. i did have to ask for it, and the shop owner ordered it for me. it was 9.99 a box.

My experience has paralleled yours exactly. Went through 2 boxes of Fed 550 without any problems and had 3 or 4 FTEs halfway through a box of Win 555, which also contained several with loose crimps. Fed 550 from here on out.

+1

6 Boxes of Fed 550 through both of mine and no problems. I'm sold on the stuff and it's $3 - 6 cheaper on average than anything else that i consider reliable.

Oh and I didn't mention before those cci segmented ones make bigger holes and cause more damage on most plasic items (I like shooting old computers, lcds, records, cellphones, and other random stuff) its great ammo for destroying stuff :)
