Had a great day with the kids and grandkids today.
Everybody got a belly full of food then the gift exchange
followed by an old buddy dropping by for a cigar.
Old Papaw was outside with two T-shirts on (one long
sleeve, one short sleeve), on Dec.24
My Youngest grandson "Cooper", had to show Papaw
how his RC Monster Truck would go thru mud puddles.
I loved every minute of it.
I've been Blessed.

Forgot to mention.
My son in law (who drew my name last month for the
gift exchange), bought me a really nice Range Bag
from Cabelas. I needed one badly. Couldn't thank
the kid enough. Best darn gift i've recieved in ages.

So much for the diet. I brought home some goodies... A pound of shelled pecans, a chicken and wild rice casserole, and two Saint Arnold Ale Wagger beers.

Tomorrow, lunch with an aunt and a few cousins at an assisted living center. One of the cousins is a gun nut. It will be difficult for tomorrow to be as much fun as today, but I bet it will be.

It's way past by bedtime, I wonder if my internal clock will let me sleep late, or if I wake for a 5:00 AM walk.

Spent the evening with family. Ate. Exchanged gifts. Listened to dad tell funny stories about camping trips on Mt. Rainier when he was stationed in Everett, Washington. Played with my great nephew even though the little guy isn't feeling good. Laughed with my brother and two sisters about old times. Talked guns with my nephews. We range in age from 7 months to 80 years old and we all are as ornery as ever. One word...blessed.

Oh...and I got a blackhawk range bag and a SOG key knife.

Spoke with my granddaughter a little while ago and she was getting ready for Santa to come, she's all excited! ;)
Now of course they are tracking Santa via NORAD and he should be coming into North America via Ontario. She went on to say that they baked special cookies for Santa and bought fresh milk. So now she was getting ready for bed but wanted to wish nanny and pop a Merry Christmas! Can't wait to see her tomorrow! ;)

An Irishman walks into a bar in Dublin, orders three pints of Guinness and sits at the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more.
The bartender approaches and tells him, "You know, a pint goes flat after I draw it, and it would taste better if you bought one at a time." The Irishman replies: "Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is in America, the other is in Australia, and I'm in Dublin. When we all left home, we promised that we'd drink this way to remember the days we drank together. So I drink one for each me brothers and one for me self."

The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there. The Irishman becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way: He orders three pints and drinks them in turn. One day, he comes in and orders two pints. All the other regulars take notice and fall silent. When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss."
The Irishman looks quite puzzled for a moment, then a light dawns and he laughs. "Oh, no, everybody's just fine," he explains, "It's just that me wife had us join that Baptist Church and I had to quit drinking. But it hasn't affected me brothers though."

In a perfect world we would leave out a six pack and some hot tacos for Santa, not some measly milk and cookies! Maybe even a little Napoleon Brandy to keep ole Santa warm against the chill of a winter's night. No doubt that milk and cookies bit was the beginning of political correctness in the world. What jolly ole fat man wants milk and cookies when he could have beer and tacos? I mean, really?

Our Christmas plans have been postponed as my mom has pneumonia and is struggling. It came on suddenly and having COPD doesn't help.

I'm trying to keep a glad heart but I am faltering.

Please put in a good word for her (Brenda).

She's still my mommy.

Thank you and cherish this anointed day.
Rusty,

Somehow you make me laugh and shed a tear all at the same time. Candi and I will certainly be praying for your mother...and you.

I chuckled at the mommy statement. Moms are always moms, and we are always their little boys. When I was pastoring, I had the honor of being pastor of a church that was close enough for my parents to attend. I had an office with my title on the door, the usual big desk, and a wall to wall bookcase full of thick books to convince people I was smart. Didn't work. I usually kept my door open. I was never the stodgy type and wanted people to know they were welcome in my "inner sanctum." With the door open, I could hear the front door of the church so I knew when someone was entering.

One day, very early before Sunday worship, I heard the front door. I looked up waiting to see who the early arrival was. I waited...waited a little longer...then finally, my mother poked her head in my office, gave me a beautiful smile, and said so sweetly, "There's my baby." Title on door, fancy name placard on big desk, imposing wall to wall shelf of books behind me...no matter...there sat her baby. She just turned 80. Yup...she's still mom, and always will be.

I hope you find encouragement and strength during tough times. It may be difficult for you to watch, but no matter what she is going through, I am sure she still wants her little boy to be happy... because that's just how amazing moms are wired. Once again, we will be praying.

My brother-in-law, brought me 6000 9mm brass empties, some lead weights to melt down for bullets, and some powder and primers and said since I like to reload so he would let me reload these 6000 rounds for him, as his Christmas gift to me. He did have instructions on how much grain he wanted loaded in them. He said now that he was working part time putting in ten hours a week at the local tavern as back up bar tender, he just did not have time to do it himself. Besides he knows how important it is to help us old retired guys stay busy.

He then suggested that I could in return buy him a new Leopold scope for his recently acquired old and pristine Marlin lever action .22 rifle. A Christmas gift from my sister, his wife, to him this year. I know how much it cost because I had to loan her the money to buy it for him with.

That's my brother-in-law always thinking of my pleasure and things he can do to help me have fun. Last year he let me put fiberglass patches on the bottom of his fishing boat for his Christmas gift to me. He then sold it and we never did get to use it.
