"...The USS William D. Porter was not exactly a "lucky ship." It's the only ship in US Navy history to have it's entire crew arrested at one time, the result of accidentally launching a live torpedo at USS Iowa that just happened to be carrying President Roosevelt at the time...."

My guess is with that in your service jacket, advancement would be slow or nonexistent for however long your career might last after that!
Though telling the story might get you a free drink or two at a bar dependant upon the politics and/or rank of your audience! 🍺 🍸 🍻

Captain of that ship couldn't have gotten on as a cook
in McHales Navy.....:p:p

Walkinghorse,
I'm planning on attending the Dayton Air Show coming up
next weekend. Blue Angels will be there as well as an
Air Force F22 Raptor. Plus the whole gammut of the usual
WW2 era Military planes.
Usually a really good show. I try to go and watch the Angels
whenever they fly within a reasonable distance from me.
Grew up on Marine Air Base and the Blue Angels would fly
at it every summer.
Every time one of those jets makes a low level pass overhead
it makes me Proud to be an American.
And also damn proud that those guys flying those wonderful
planes are on our side !!! :):)

Chuck

Our air show is this weekend, I saw two P 51's flying over this afternoon, this weekend will be a good one to stay home, traffic will be backed up for miles.

Saw a piece on the local News tonight.
Debate on whether or not the Baby Boxes at Fire stations
would remain and if they are safe.
In an effort to keep mothers from abandoning newborns
in a place they might not survive, newborns can be dropped
off at a Fire station (no questions asked).
There have been drop off "boxes" installed at some big city
Fire stations. From the looks of them on TV they have a door
that has holes to allow for fresh air and inside a small padded
bed of sorts. Also looked to be a video monitor to determine
when a child was left there. Built in to the side of the wall much
like a mail slot.
Now, don' get me wrong i believe this is a good alternative to
newborns being left in a dumpster or bathroom somewhere.
But what does it say about us as a people that these things
need to be built in the first place?
Is there no value placed on human life anymore?

Too many Peanut butter and banana sandwiches ! ;)

Peanut Butter, banana and bacon hoagie sandwiches to be precise.

Good morning all. It's 78 and very humid outside my door this morning. Hopefully no hordes will be encountered on my walk this morning for I have a busy day planned. After I scout, I'll walk to Kroger for a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread. Then I'll take the bus down to the heart of the Houston Galleria in my never ending quest for low cost high quality running shoes. The people watching there is the polar opposite of people watching at Walmart. Seems I remember a thread not too long ago where someone was complaining that they did not see ladies all dressed up anymore. They obviously do not shop in the Houston Galleria. :D Actually I'm going to the DSW and Nordstrom Rack stores on Post Oak Blvd, but they are right across the street from the Galleria. If you are still having trouble sleeping, give up, get up, and have breakfast. Each of you have a great day!

Chevette???

Weird little car, emphasis on the little. Made an AMC Hornet look big.
Chevy once put the V-6 from the early S-10 truck, which used the same F/R transmission in a prototype. End result it could out accelerate a Corvette, maneuverability was somewhat lacking. So was transmission life in the S-10 station wagon with the six. I recall one volunteer fireman who had a heavily optioned S-10 wagon, got about 12,000 miles to a transmission.

Who remembers the unusual cars of his youth.

I'm back

I'm back from my camping/fishing trip. All went well except my lab tore a ligament in her knee according to the vet in the town where we were camping and she's going to need surgery on it. Our regular vet is supposed to call Monday to get something set up. We were camping 4 hrs north and the temp several days never got out of the 50s. We got home yesterday and it hit 90.

Good Morning!

I hope all is well, in the land of plenty?

High today is 97 degrees here in Music City, heat index of 100! Nice day to be Downtown Nashville on the pavement, watching concerts, during the CMA Fan Faiir. NOT!!

Or at Bonnaroo in Manchester Tennessee, but at least at Bonnaroo, they're so high, they think they're in the Alps! Or as momma used to say, they're higher than a Georgia Pine.

So I hope everyone stays safe today and stays cool. Where ever your at. And PLEASE, don't fall out of that Georgia Pine! When your that high, it's a long way down!

The Army dropped me off in a big Georgia pine twice and it is a very very long way down!

Back from a beach stroll and heading for breakfast, stopped by to say hi.
Didn't get caught up, choked on my coffee, SW you old cunning linguist you :p

Pounding rain all the way thru Big Cypress the skies cleared enough to grab some groceries and check in. Clouds built again as we headed to the beach where my wife immediately made a new friend... horse or queen conch I'm not sure. Not a minute later I found another in a foot of water and then one more down the beach all catching the outgoing tide.
If I found one more I would have backtracked, harvested, mashed together with some Wavy Lays, butter, garlic and lots of pepper and made a fritter. Made do with brats and onions on the grill.

View from the deck, wife's little lucky buddy and the pier with Sanibel (back after breakfast, WiFi still on... far out) in the background.

Good morning!
Hot here, possibly a record high for the date later in the day. Made 95° yesterday per our thermometer.
A big T storm came close last night, lots of rumbling, but broke up before it got here.
Just some light rain, to add moisture to the air, YEA????? 😕
T storm off to the west towards Does Moines but moving SW.
Wife just finished working on the horses feet for the day, hopefully finish tomorrow!
I have been out checking out the trailer, removing covers, tire pressure, etc.
Horses now in the pasture, so happy!
AC feels good for us old folks!
Maybe #1 in invention listings! 😁 Maybe #2 🍺 ??

Good morning everyone, hope all are off to a great weekend start. Things are starting to heat up here already, humidity is building. Expecting some heavy hitter thunderstorms to blow through here this afternoon!
Not to much planned for today, just a laid back weekend. Maybe a drive to the campsite later to check on the Motorhome, after the storms pass. ;)

Just got back from a Breakfast Run. I had to stop at my Amish Store for Mator's. Can't have a weekend without my Organic Amish Mators!

Then went to Hardie's and got us all Gravy N Biscuits. Drive thru was around the block, so I went in. What a bunch of idiots. Place was slammed and they were messing up orders left and right. No one working there could speak or understand ENGLISH! I had to tell the girl 5 times, no, I ordered 3 gravy n biscuits. She still didn't understand and kept trying to give me, God only knows what? And acted like I was the one that was crazy! I thought an older lady was going to hurt one of them! They kept messing up her order, over and over.

And these fools want $15 an hour? They owe me money for standing there waiting on them to get my simple little order right for 30 minutes!

I was having a good morning till I got to Hardie's!

Breakfast Rant Over!
