I want to first state that I love the original m&p line of pistols. I currently have a full size 9mm m&p, a pro series 40 m&p and now a new owner of a shield M&P 40. I also had a 40 M&P compact and a body guard 380.
I am starting to wonder about the quality of products that smith and wesson is currently producing. The last three hand guns I have purchased have had to be returned for repairs. The first gun to be repaired was a body guard 380. I was shooting the gun at the range into the third clip and the take down pin came flying out the slide was halfway off the frame and there was a bullet in the barrel. That gun I returned to gander mountain for a full refund. After that I replaced the 380 with a ruger lcp 380 and no problems to this day. The second gun I recently purchased was a M&P 40 pro series. The trigger was the worst trigger I have ever pulled. The trigger was very gritty. I even put a good 600 rounds through it to see if it would get better with no luck. I sent the pro series back and now its much better. My latest purchase was a M&P 40 shield. I have the famous mag drop problem on the extended mag when firing. I sent the gun back to smith and wesson . I received the gun here recently with a letter that stated that it now meets their specifications and was test fired. The gun could not have been range tested. I loaded my first clip racked the slide and guess what extended mag came out just from loading the gun. I still took the gun to the range and I only shot one clip and dropped at least 3 from the first clip. Im very disappointed and dont have much confidence in the gun now. I think the current quality control sucks at smith and wesson. BUYER BEWARE OF M&P SHIELD 40CAL. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS GUN TO ANYONE!
