Another WalMart Mass Killing

My circle of family, friends, and co-workers are still decent, honest people. However it does appear that evil has been emboldened. I think we all know how it has become so, and by whom.

Yeah, I know how it has become so, and I know who is responsible for it.

It's become so because since the early 1960s, we've been slowly but inexorably attacking and eroding the nuclear family, which is the basic building block of a civilized society. We've removed the stigma both from having children out-of-wedlock, and from getting divorced, which has led to the explosive growth of single-parent households, with kids raising themselves; this has directly resulted in children growing up without the loving guidance and discipline they need to become productive and responsible citizens.

It's become so because we've abandoned the notion of responsibility, of holding people accountable for their actions. All across our society, at all levels, people feel entitled to act out, to lash out, to do whatever they feel like doing because their special gripe or grievance is sooooo important. The idea of obeying the law, respecting authority, doing the right thing because it's the right thing to do, has completely fallen by the wayside.

It's become so because we Americans point our fingers at "the other guy" and blame him for the situation...thus exempting ourselves from any responsibility. We say we want leaders who are patriotic, honest, and trustworthy...and then vote for people who are none of those things. We preach respect for authority...and then boast of our disdain for authority. We claim to support law enforcement personnel...until they actually enforce the law, at which time we attack them. We want common criminals locked up forever for looting and rioting, but we make excuses for or downplay social or political violence we approve of.

Yeah, I know how it has become so. As for who is responsible for it: every single American is. With every passing day, I feel like we're watching a pact with the devil play out... :(

He posted a manifesto on his phone that the police released this morning. He seemed to be a pretty paranoid person and blamed everyone but himself. Here are a couple of our local tv stations website if you want to know more: Norfolk News & Weather | Norfolk, VA | WAVY.com, Hampton Roads, Northeast North Carolina News, Weather, Traffic, Sports and Politics | WTKR | News 3.

Such a shame. You have to wonder how these people become so unhinged. Is it mental illness, unhealthy environment growing up, complete lack of character/values, combination of all these things? Regardless of cause, it's just not fair that innocent people fall victim to an amoral, cowardly *******. May these victims rest in peace.

My prayers are with the victim's families.

The value system I was taught as well as others on this forum is no longer the norm.

I am in agreement with Beemerguy53's assessment of the breakdown of the familial unit.

I don't think it is going to get better any time soon.

We live in a fallen world. It will not get better. Nothing surprises me anymore. Evil no longer lives in the shadows. It is now celebrated and accepted as normal. And every tragedy is embraced and used politically. People claim to be morally outraged when they simply have no morals and use every opportunity to advance an agenda. Sad days indeed.

On some radio program I heard the comment, "for every truly complicated issue there will always be simple solutions offered and they never work". This is, sadly, one of those issues with no simple solutions.

He has been mentally ill for years, and sadly, the family chose not to intervene. That is the issue . . .

After reading a bit more in the news about his paranoia mental illness seemed to be part of the problem. Sounds like some schizophrenic behaviors.

I feel for his family as well, they must feel terrible if they were aware of it.

I had read where he was "a good manager but a little ...loose. Thinknig the government was spying on him, etc. Conspiracy nut....and it was known". BUt that is gone now.

A while back I spent two days online and on the phone trying to make a VA appointment. The frustration was beyond belief. The VA was kind enough to send me an email survey, which I usually delete without responding. But no, I needed to vent a bit and told them trying to make an appointment and having to listen to the constant barrage about their suicide prevention program was enough to make one call the suicide hotline. Less than 15 minutes after I sent it, the National Suicide Hotline called me.

So yes, the government does spy on us, and he wasn't paranoid about that.
