Apparently several fatalities and several wounded with the shooter dead at WalMart on Battlefield Road, Chesepeake, VA. Not much further information.

Don't know what to say……..those poor people……. Prayers just aren't enough, but it's all I can do for now…….
I'm speechless. What a senseless tragedy. My prayers go out to their families and loved ones.
Another sad event, and one more nail in the coffin of the Right to private ownership of firearms. So Sad on so many levels.

I live in Chesapeake, the Battlefield Blvd Wal Mart is behind the Post office where I started my postal career. My niece called to make sure we were alright and I told her at 10pm the chances of us being out are slim, we're lucky to be awake.

I think Wal Mart may be in a world of trouble liability wise-They're gonna definately get hit with the comp but I suspect there may lie a tort claim against Wal Mart if the stuff I am hearing about the manager is true.
Gary, inquiring minds want to know. What have you heard about the manager? I haven't been able to find anything about him.
We have "mass murder" because our "mass psychology" is corroded with division, intolerance, apathy with an oversupply of solipsistic thinking. If I am solely concerned with me, you don't matter. I can change that inside my "Hula Hoop" but it's not something we can legislate into being for society in general . Joe

We are living in a dying society in the midst of its own suicide.
Incidents like these a decade ago were extremely rare...now they are almost daily. One has to only walk the streets, go shopping, or to a restaurant and see exactly WHY this kind of thing goes on and it has to do not with religion, or politics, or beliefs. It has to do with the people themselves. Despite all of the lip service the masses pay to a lot of this stuff, the majoprity really don't care within three seconds after the news break.
I see no improvement and indeed only seeing this get far worse than it is.
I have written on this forum many times about the things I have seen and won't go through all that today. Suffice to say until society and the masses reach down deep and wake up, this will continue.

Not only is there a lot of pent-up anger, but we've created a society where people seem unable to exercise any impulse control, and feel entitled to do whatever they feel like doing whenever they feel like doing it.
Add to that the fact that every single time something like this happens, the press goes nuts publicizing it: Interviews with the victims, constant updates on the investigation, politicians bloviating about what they want to ban next, etc., etc. This can't help but affect lost souls who are on the edge psychologically, and push them into action...
Every year in this country, hundreds of people commit suicide by jumping off bridges or stepping in front of trains...but those incidents are never given wide coverage -- if they're reported at all -- because the press doesn't want to encourage copycats. They know the effect their news coverage has.

The National Desk went to the live press conference given by the sheriff's office. It was flat out hysterical, because the guy had nothing to tell them except "bon mots" regarding other first responders. But somebody in the brains trust felt they had to have a press conference.
After 26 years policing in a large city in AZ, I can attest that some parts of society is in fact circling the drain…..
but a lot of people are desperately trying to. their vision for my life does not take into consideration MY vision for my life.
Tragic, I pray the victims and their families find peace.
My circle of family, friends, and co-workers are still decent, honest people. However it does appear that evil has been emboldened. I think we all know how it has become so, and by whom.
