Any Combat Controllers here ?

Just finished the book "Alone at Dawn", a book about John Chapman, a Combat Controller who lost his life in Afganistan in 2002. I had never heard of the Combat Controllers and was simply amazed at what they do and what it takes to be part of the elite organization. They are known as "the best of the best" and after reading the book I think it would be hard for anyone to find fault with that statement. One of the best books I have ever read and a great testament to a true American hero.

JTAC's are a wonderful and strange bunch. My son was an instructor at the Marine JTAC course for three years while the A-10's were in limbo. He sent me a video shot in Afghanistan while he was there that was put together by JTAC's in country. It's called Party Elevator and it's not for public release due to certain content (call signs, equipment, etc.). I would like to post it, but then...you know what they say...

I'm a 28-year air traffic controller. Knew a bunch of those guys. They called us sissies. We never argued. A most humble and proud lot, as I recall.

I was a platoon SGT in the 82D, when my guys were feeling their oats and walking ten feet tall, I'd remind them that on every jump, CCT was on the DZ before us!

They don't need anyone to blow their horn! Most everything they are trained to do is so far above the norm that it is unreal what they can do. My grandson is currently in the TACP/JTAC pipeline. About another year & he will join that elite group of warriors!
