Any Masons here?

Legelegel, Lobo and BearBio have said it well. Those key words "make a good man better" have been mentioned in several posts.
My Dad, both Grandfathers and several uncles were Blue Lodge and Scottish Rite Masons. I was made a Master Mason 38 years ago and am still seeking more light. :) :) :)

I am a 5th generation Master Mason. I am also a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a York Rite Mason, a member of the Eastern Star and a Shrine Mason. I am a PM & Past DDGM. There is no higher Honor in Masonry than that of a Master Mason. Making a "good man better" is certainly the central theme of the Fraternity. We support public education, children's hospitals, retirement homes, medical research, vision improvement and various other charities. Doesn't matter if you are a US President or manual laborer all Brothers meet upon the level...
Good luck...

I'm not a Mason. But the son and brother of Masons. You guys have done an excellent job of explaining.

Be advised that much of what you read on the internet is bunk.

Also know that all states have a Grand Lodge that makes Masonic Law and governs that states accordingly. Most states differ in the ways of Masonry but the common thread is that Freemasonry takes Good Men and makes them better.

I am Past Master of a Lodge in Florida and I can attest that some of the Master Mason Brothers have turned into true life long friends that I can truly count on if things go south.

I recommend that you find out where your neighborhood Lodge is through your states' Grand Lodge website and contact the Worshipful Master about attending a function suitable for a potential candidate. He will answer what questions he is allowed to and point you in the right direction.

I am proud to say that I am a brother as well and this was one of the greatest things that I've ever done!
Very good explanations, and one thing that was always stressed to me is that family and related responsibilities always come first!
Ask one to be one! ;)
I forgot to mention that I am Scottish Rite and York Rite as well!

My Brothers, I also am a 32 degree Master Mason, Shriner and both a Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason. This Saturday I will travel200 miles south from my Mountain home to attend my Past Masters Degree.
I am grateful and honored to be able to stand in a Lodge where men like Bro. Washington, Truman, Ford, Wayne,Roosevelt and many others recited the very same obligations I have.
I have found great comfort in my Brother Masons and know my well being is assured, and that of my Widow and Orphans.

My father was a Traveling Man.

As I have gotten older, I've started becoming more interested in giving back to the community, perhaps as a Mason. This thread has helped in that thought process. Thank you.

I have been in the lodge since 1994 and am Past Master of my lodge. You have been given very good advise here. I will add that every time I watch degree work being performed in my lodge I get something new from the lectures.
It has been said here already but you really do get out of it what you put in to it.

Shriners (Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine) are Freemasons. They run 22 children's hospitals where patients don't pay a cent.

I'm not a mason. I don't know if I know any masons (if that makes sense). But I know about the above statement. Almost 30 years ago, my brother was given a future where he was able to walk because of the Shriner's hospital. He had a deformed leg that they fixed without us having to spend a penny. This was at a time when my parents didn't eat dinner for almost a week so they could buy my brother and I 1 Christmas present each.

Fast forward to last year, the very same hospital gave my niece, who has a rare nerve disorder, a surgery as well.

It's not often, but whenever I have spare money to donate, it goes to the Shriner's hospitals.

I can honestly say that brought tears to my eyes.

Apparently, I offended some people when I took offense at what I thought was a VERY offensive post and demanded an apology. I was called on it by the powers that be! If so, I apologize.

My twin nieces were born with a total of three club feet between them. From one year until they were out of high school, they had operations, sometimes as often as once a month. All at no cost== Thanks to the Shriners!

While there, my sister-in-law noticed that all the doctors were older except for the burn ward. There the doctors were all young me. She asked why and was told "Viet Nam. These guys learned more about treating burns, especially in children in one year than they could in ten years here. When they come back, they come to us to work with the kids".

So please excuse me if I do not find Freemasonry a laughing matter!
