OK - just picked up a pound of VV N320. Any pet loads in .38 with a 148 cast WC? Have been using 2.8 BE and 2.8 of Red Dot for the K-38 PPC gun.

Same for the .45. Been using a 200 grain cast SWC over 4.0 BE or 4.0 Red dot for the 1911 National Match Gun. Shooting mostly indoor 50 foot stuff.

Seem published data for VV is somewhat limited compared to my 40 year old triad of BE, Unique, 2400.

3.0 grains of VVn320, Bayou 138 DEWC is my favorite mild target load for .38 special.

4.7 grains of VVn320 with the 200 grain swc of your choice will be a fine target load.

VV N320 loads

Thanks Russell,

Any indications of the VV powder is like WW 296 with respect to going below factory listed data. I have been told that with WW 296 not to go less than listed due to pressure excursions.

Have absolutely no experience with the VV powders and have not found anyone here that loads with it. Have used BE, Unique and 2400 for the past 40 years so feel really confortable going somewhat less than published with those powders.

That said - need to be willing to venture out with new powders - especially if it will meter well and burn cleaner than BE.

Thanks again

For 38 special 148 HBWC try 2.8 - 2.9 of N320 , with a 158 SWC / RN try 3.3 . 45acp 230 FMJ try 5.2 . Lighter bullets in 45acp work better with N310 . N340 3.6 with a 148 HBWC 38 special works very well . These are all target loads .

I did really well shooting 4.2 grains of N320 using a Penn 200 LSWC.

8 rounds 5 yd line (2 shots 3 secs)
12 rounds 7 yd line 25 secs
12 rounds 15 yd line 35 secs
18 rounds 25 yd line 90 secs

From 2012 using a SA R/O (50 rounds out to 25 yds)

2.7/2.8/2.9 of N320 using a P/D 148 swaged slug.

from 2012 using a worn out 4" 686 (50 rounds out to 25 yds).

I only stopped using N320 because of the price and I have some older stuff, I parked N320 to rotate my older stuff first.

I will eventually go back to those loads.

Tin Star is VV N32 C

3.0 for the .38 LWC's
&
5.0 for the .45 LSWC's

The above are light, clean and accurate loads for me.
