I do use all that you listed. Must be dry right now. Thanks for your help.

I buy what's available when I find it. If the find is unusual I give it a try. Most of the time it works out. A while back I bought some Royal Scot D. I didn't know anything about this powder. After some research and a lot of help I loaded up some 9mm with it. It's a great powder and now I wish I'd of bought all that was there. I still got a couple of pounds left and will continue to load it. Good luck in your search.

EDH, you don't show your location but I have had no problem locating pistol powder here in Dallas/Ft Worth area.

Maybe post your location and someone from your area will help you locate some powder. Or not.

Check out expansion industries, they are new and have pistol powder for about $18. a lb. will ship up to 50 lbs. on one hazmat fee it's available in one pounders and 4 pounders.

EDH, you really need to indicate your general location when asking for help in locating some powder. Because hard as it is to believe we are not Mind Readers.

That said, there is powder out there but you'll have to be willing to make an effort to locate it and pay a bit more than what you paid in the past.

One of my most reliable sources for powder has been the various gun shows in the area. Yeah, prices generally range between 25 and 30 dollars a pound for handgun or popular rifle powders but when you factor in the hazmat charges on an order of powder those prices seem much more reasonable.

Another source has been Fin, Feather, and Fur in Ashland, Ohio and the Sportsman's Den in Shelby, Ohio. I've found by detouring by these two shops when driving down to Lexington, Va to visit my sister I can not only save 30 miles on the drive but I can also check on what they have in stock. Because both shops have someone calling the various distributors every single day they manage to get powder that most gun shops are too lazy to search out. Downside is they do pay market price for what they find so prices generally run 25-30 dollars a pound. BTW, notice a trend here? That is that if you want powder you will have to pay the piper.

So, what is the payoff. Right now I have IMR SR7625, VV 3N37, Accurate 5, 7, & 9, Alliant Unique and 2400, CFE Pistol, H110, Longshot, 4227, CFE 223, AA 2495, Varget, IMR 4064, and 1 or 2 I am forgetting in my powder locker. With that I can load 38 special, 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, 223 Remington, and 308 Winchester. Yeah, there is a lot of variety there. However that variety is a matter of purchasing a powder that I can use instead of trying to concentrate of using only favorites that I am familiar with. Basically, if you try and pick and choose today you will lose. If you decide that you'll learn to use what you can find you'll find it's a bit of a Win Win. Not only will you gain the ability to select powders that are a better "fit" for a particular bullet weight or barrel length but you'll also gain experience that widens your horizons.

If you complete your profile and put your location in there perhaps a member local to you can help.

I have purchased over 20 1 pound cans of powder in the last 12 months. . . 10 of 231, 6 of titegroup, Reloader 10, 2400 and a couple for my 300 Blackout.

The stuff is there. If you are in South Florida, I can let you have some of the 231 or titegroup at whatever I paid. I bought extra just in case there was a slow spell.

Walked into a supplier last week and there sat a 8# jug of HP-38! Could have knocked me over with a feather!

Naturally, I didn't have the money for it... but got a 1# can. :D

So... it's out there...

I don't know if you have a smart phone or a tablet, but I found an app for Android that has a ton of load information. You can look up loads on the go to see what powders are likely to be suitable for your needs.

You will need to stop in local stores that carry reloading supplies when you are nearby. It's either that, or get someone that works there to call you when pistol powder comes in.

The last couple of gun shows have had pistol powders, although at inflated prices.

I have managed to stay supplied with pistol powder for the last two years from local sources. I have had to try several new powders, but I have been shooting. I have seen more powders on the shelves recently. They don't have it consistently, but they've managed to keep some powders on the shelf for a couple days recently.

Where do you reside ? pistol powder has been easier to find lately
I have to travel about 40 miles to PA to get it , but last week I
managed to get 1 lb each unique,HS6, American Select and Titegroup
reasonable price too 24 to 26 dollars a pound .
at a gun shop not a show.

As the weeks go by pistol powder out my way in NH is getting better stocked. I'm seeing a good stock of the popular stuff like Universal, Titegroup, Bullseye and so on. 5 months ago PP was still very hard to find so things are getting back to the norm... I handload rifle as well, and the rifle compionents are in excellent supply.

I'm seeing pretty much every weekend now in CT, but it's averaging about $30/lb. I can stomach that for shotgun flake, but not magnum powders that get consumed four times faster.

For 2 years, there was NO pistol powder anywhere in my area. So, I bought some Red Dot, because I knew I could make it work. Then one day I called a shop and they had TiteGroup, CFE Pistol, 700X, 800X and maybe a few more. Had never used any of these powders, but was willing to try them. That was about 3-6 months ago.

The past few months, more powder at the same shop and at the last gun show I went to (gun show prices were on the high side), but the shop had gotten in 1, 4 & 8 lb. containers of several powders; so I bought an 8 lb. jug of TiteGroup for $149.99 + tax (20.06/lb.).

Today I called a different shop and they had HP-38 in 1 lb. and Winchester 231 in 1 & 4 lb. containers! $22.31/1 lb. and $79/4 lb.
When I got to the shop, there was powder everywhere! 1, 4, & 8 lb. on the shelves of everything BUT ALLIANT! Seems East Central Indiana can't get any Alliant powders! Pistol, rifle and shotgun powders. Dan (the Mgr) said if you don't see what you want, I have more in back. When I told him I had called about the 231, he went to get it-I told him I would take 2-4 pounders. When he came back, he said you're in luck, and sat down an 8 lb. jug of 231! He said he forgot it was up there! I asked how many more do you have? He said 1 more-$145 each! It was hard to leave that 2nd jug behind! :-( But maybe someone else will get lucky, before I go back and get it!

I enjoy shooting and reloading. I can't afford to hoard lots of components (as much as I wish I could). I WON'T overpay for components or 22 ammo either. I've left a good amount to those who had more money than sense. My W231 comes out to $19.39/lb. including tax. And I can get 12,000-15,000 reloads from that container alone. I'm set for quite a while on powder and I have a decent supply of primers; bullets, I need to work on now.

It's out there and at decent prices, you just have to call or stop by every chance you get. Eventually, you'll score! :-)

Would that be Tanners? I got 8# of unique "my all time favorite" last week for $170 at the oaks show. By the way I think we might be neighbors I'm in the pines.

Jim, cant speak for the other poster but I left the pines (Tuckerton) in 2004 for Carbon County PA would never consider going back.

Not to rub it in but I can own/carry/shoot just about anything I want and powder is easier to get here. I belong to two clubs here, one has a great facility with just about any activity you could want it cost $30.00/year, the other is smaller but dues is $14.00/year. Tomorrow I'm going down to the courthouse to renew my carry permit. Should take about 29 minutes.

Yes I do miss the shore, grew up in Belmar but the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

I hear you , I'm about 20 min from Tuckerton. This state gets worse every year. For now at least I have too many people that count on me. 3 kids my 84 year old mother to leave for a free state. The best i could hope for would be moving over to Bucks or Montgomery PA. But to be honest with you I hate that part of the state and would rather live in NJ. I hope to be out of NJ in 6 years. Im glad to hear your doing so well.

A while back I was more or less forced to buy Promo for my pistols or just stop shooting. I bought an 8 lb container and, at the rate I've been using it, it should last me forever. I'M OLD!

As an update to my post #15,

A shooting buddy of mine asked if I wanted to sell my Savage AXIS 223 rifle with 3-9 x 50mm scope. His brother was looking to buy a rifle and just thought he'd ask me. I told him if I can get enough to pay for 16 lbs. of 231, I would. Long story short, his brother bought my rifle and I now have 16 lbs. of Winchester 231 powder!

I can replace the rifle, the powder is much harder to come by (at a decent price). Anyone else been selling other things to buy components?
