I used to dive the wrecks off of NY, NJ, DE and the reefs off FL - it was very exciting and rewarding.

anyone else??

I've found it amazing how many people here on the forum also share other similar interests and issues. I think its more from a "like minds" type thing than the %'s - we'll see

I used to, mostly in Michigan and Ohio, but never more than snorkeling in the ocean. Several advanced certifications, up to Rescue Diver, but haven't been out since my regular dive buddy moved away, and my wetsuit no longer fits...

Back in the mid 50s I was one of the first scuba divers ever on the east coast, mostly Maryland and Delaware after the sport came over from France. I assisted Joe Dorsey when he broke the then worlds record free accent of 334 feet from the foot of the Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna River. Fun times.

Yup not so much anymore though, I like wrecks and recovery/salvage diving, but not the wild stuff up in the NE.... LOL Thought about going commercial for a while, but its a tough way to make a buck...

Yup, east coast "Gorilla Diver"! Go out of the Indian River Inlet, Ocean City and Virginia Beach areas wreck diveing. Also hit the Florida keys, lot's of fun, also dive the local quarry's and such to stay in shape. I'm an old PADI (put another dollar in) diver, started in 1979 but I'm temporarily dry-docked until my cardiologist gives me the ok to get back in the water again.

well I came in to diving about 20 years later - in the late 70's- and was instructed and certified (NASDS) at Joe Dorsey's Diver's Den in Parkville.
I met Joe a few times and knew Jeannie and Ma Dorsey quite well. Actually I was probably more of a pest, stopping in after school and just looking at stuff - Heck I watched Sea Hunt and Flipper- I loved that stuff - I grew up about 2 miles from the store and currently live about 5 miles from the Conowingo Dam. I never heard about a free accent record tell me more - the dam seems all silted up - above the dam - and the water's are pretty low below

I read Joe passed on this past spring. RIP Joe

yes - diving was like exploring a different world (I say "was" cause I can't equalize left side eustachian tube past 15 feet anymore)

I helped Joe and Ma Dorsey open his shop Divers Den. Joe was a QC Inspector at the old Glenn L Martin Co where I worked too. He started with six folding card tables and a handful of masks and snorkels and a couple single stage regulators, ala Sea Hunt, on consignment. Back in the 50s above the dam the Susquehanna was much clearer and deeper. It was the deepest spot near Maryland we could find for the assent. Joe was a previous Mister Maryland and weight lifting champ, it was his huge chest and lung capacity that helped him make the record.
The Martin company had it's own dive club the Martin Mantis, I was a member, still got some patches around here somewhere. Went on some great divers with those guys, mostly off Md/Del coast. I lived off Old Harford Rd, Kings Ridge.

I haven't dived in years but used to be a member of our department dive rescue team. Our duty consisted mainly of recovery operations in low visibility water, not the most pleasant task. We also used to do ice diving every year, cut a hole in the ice with a chainsaw and dove tethered to a line. I always enjoyed the ice diving but never had to do it in an actual emergency.

We would practice in various locations including wreck diving in Lake Michigan and that was always fun. I would also dive on vacation in the Caribbean, and the Pacific so that was a plus to being certified.

Hey there, been to Bainbridge (don't need a dive light there, a reference to Three Mile Island!) ,Willow Springs, Martinsville W.V. and Dutch Springs many times. Local quarry's At Williamsburg and Gannister as well. When your landlocked ya gotta make due! I never really heard of Haymarket or Beaver Dam.

I teach SCUBA lessons when I can (probably 1 class per month) and try to get 1-2 weeks of blue water diving a year.

I am Scuba Diver but have not been under in about 8 years now. When I was younger I would dive in the Florida Keys, The Bahamas, Antigua, Bermuda, NY, NJ, and Mexico but I guess I have lost the desire and just haven't been motivated lately. I started at age 13 and got my dual Certification when I was 17 (PADI and YMCA). I do have LOTS of slides that I took with a Nikonos underwater camera, but have long since gotten rid of. The only equipment I still have are my Voit UDT Duck Feet fins.

I grew up in the Caribbean and started to dive at about 11.Made extra money cleaning boat hulls underwater and spear fishing on weekends.
Now only get wet when I visit the Philippines to keep up my log book and hunt for dinner.

I dive but sadly haven't in a while. even though I live in Florida. Done all the major springs and a few out side the box. ( by the way I need to get my tanks hydro'ed)

Haymarket, Virginia- big mud hole about 130 ft deep - but there is a neat school bus to go through - did some entry training there --- Beaver Dam is now a swim club in Hunt Valley, MD pretty clear but all kind of fishing line all over the place (rule 9) Bainbridge had the fighter jet trainer in it didn't it??

I was in the Midwest, Carribean, and the pacific. I logged 3000+ hours before I was 25. Right about then life took over and I haven't had a tank on since. I'm 55 this year.

PADI certified in 1982. Dive up and down the California coast. Been to Maui, Florida Keys, and Puerto Rico.

I dove the reef off Ambergris Cay in Belize, in '77. Cozumel off and on for a few years, then moved to Cairns, Australia, and stopped scuba diving and just free dove spearfished, got really addicted to spearfishing--After my fourth ruptured eardrum, I don't even hold my breath in the shower. (the eardrum was patched up when I was 13, and is just scar tissue now, I guess)
What'd ya say?

I love both scuba and snorkeling. So glad to be from where I'm from. Got to dive all over Monterey Bay, Monastery Beach and Pt. Lobos (my favorite)
