Anybody else buying cheap stacking deep

Not seeing anything Cheap to stack deep or otherwise. Cheaper ? Yup but not cheap. Hoping components get back in good supply at a reasonable price is the best I can do right now. Not fueling the inflation.

I am not at this time as I already did so a year or more ago. I am in my mid 70's and believe I have enough 9mm to last me as long as I will be needing it.

That being said my friend who owns the LGS is planning to close for good at the end of the year. Two years ago, he went to PT 3 days a week. He has several 500 rd cases of WW 9mm left and has promised me a "good deal" if I should need more. If there is any left at the end of the year, I will buy some for old times sake and a few friends of mine will be gifted ammo in the future.

I recently took advantage of the Winchester rebate for 5.56 and I just bought a nice quantity of 124gr 9mm from a private party for $10 per box. Who know if prices will come down but I don’t really need more for now.

Ammo and components is a commodities market. It goes up and down. Some day in the not too distant future supply will overwhelm demand. It always happens. There is no good way to know what the demand will be in 3-6 months but that isn't going to stop manufacturers from making more then retailers can sell in a 30 day cycle.

As one dealer once told me, we aren't in the ammo storage business.

Do study what politics does to it? Blows your theory right out of the water.

I certainly wouldn't be buying that Federal Champion mentioned in the OP. 115gr @ 1125 fps? That might be a problem in my pistols sprung for proper 9mm ammo.

“Reasonable” will end up being about 40% to 80% higher than pre-China Virus prices, if we are lucky. Expect major fluctuations in price and availability.

Now? No.

But back around 2008, when we had a shortage, I mentioned it to my wife. She asked me, "Are you stocking up?"

I received that not only as permission, but as an instruction. For about twelve years I went to town with it.

So these days if I see ammo or components that are somewhat reasonable, I still buy them. But I don't really need to.

Same with me. Well stocked, but always looking for deals on loaded ammo and components. Some call it hoarding. I call it being prepared. Guns are useless without bullets.

Both of us have done that since forever. Just a quick check to the gun stores and other even if we don't find something expensive like a firearm give them some business and bucks and buy a few boxes sometimes more or a case of whatever strikes our fancy to help the local establishment.

I haven't seen the cheap ammo yet. I've seen some prices that are less ridiculous than a year ago, but nothing I would describe as inexpensive.

Still stacking my home-rolled handloads pretty deep, but running low on pre-panic primers and powders. Hopefully there will be a bit of sanity restored before I run out completely.

Agreed! I have not seen a decent price on LR and LRM primers in years. I’m not buying no new whiz-bang nothin’ until I can load for what I already have. I am not particularly interested in using factory-loaded ammunition in my centerfire rifles. Primers are the key, for me.

I have not bought any factory ammo at a gunshop/box store in quite a while. I buy from estates and the last I bought was 10MM and bought them for $7.00 a box and got 20 boxes of 50.

When I pick up reloading supplies I do the same at estates. A friend and I will make an offer on the entire set up, equipment and components. Makes the sellers happy as they get some money and also get rid of the items with no real work on their part.

I’m buying reloading components cheap whenever I can. On Friday I found this on Florida Gun Trader and bought it:

8 lb. HP-38
5 lb. Bluedot
4 lb. Bullseye
2 lb. Power Pistol
1K SPP
1K LPP
500 new Starline 10mm cases
3K FMJ 180 .40/10mm projectiles
20 lb. .45ACP once fired cases
25 lb. 9mm once fired cases

I think I’m set for awhile :D

Deals are out there, but you have to look for them.

You have quoted the spec for Federal American Eagle. Champion is loaded at 1125 not 1180 from a four inch barrel. Maybe your ammo supplier is confused, cannot cut and paste from the Federal website properly, or is playing bait and switch.

From Federal's website:

Buy American Eagle Handgun for USD 24.99 | Federal Ammunition

Buy Champion Training for USD 23.99 | Federal Ammunition

I am VERY leery of a lot of range/target ammo as I've had issues with CZs, milsurp Stars, and even a Steyr GB not cycling or barely cycling properly with it. I would like to call it operator error as the nut behind the trigger (me) has skinny wrists, but when the exact same thing happens with your shooting buddy known for his death grip on all semis...;)
