Anyone else use these "ugly" grips

Have em on my model 13. Function over form any day!

Love them! I held a 13 that had wooden grips and they felt too thin and awkward. I own a 36 with wood grips and it feels nice but when i held a 37 with Hogue it felt more secure. I prefer them on all my 3rd gen S&W semi autos as well. Just the right thickness and very secure in hand

I've used the Pachmayr Compacs on my 640 EDC for over twelve years, purely because they fit my hand so well and give me a higher hold on the gun. Just took the factory magnas and a Tyler T-Grip off my square-butt 10-5 head-of-the-bed gun and replaced them with Pachmayr Presentations. Same reason, just a lot better fit for my hand. Much as I love good wood stocks, at my time of life comfort and secure grip are more important. Sure, Hogues ain't pretty; but of that's what works for you, I assume the purists know the standard operating procedure if they can't take a joke...;)

I have rubber Hogue Monogrips on my 629 and 67. They are working guns to me and I love how the grips fit my hand. It's a simple matter to put fancy stocks on for show.

I believe these are stock with this 17-8 but they are being replaced as soon as my Retro Combat Ahrends come in. I run hogues on many of my autoloaders but I just don't dig the "black on blue" look.

Viva the Ugly grip

I have been shooting S&W magnums since the late 60's and tried a bunch of different grips by a bunch of different manufacturer's over the ensuing years.....Several years back I settled on the Houge synthetic grip with the finger grooves for ALL of my shooter's and carry guns.....so I have about two dozen of those grips on a variety of K,L,N and J frame guns.
They are the BEST grip I have found for rapid DA with magnum loads. I will not tolerate the grip shifting in my hand when I roll the trigger DA on a magnum load. Great grips on great guns. They are also impervious to just about anything they come in contact with, so on a stainless carry gun, they are the "best of breed" IMO.

I went through the rubber thing years ago, I had them for all of my revolvers. I took all of them off. I have 2 big shoe boxes full of them somewhere.Wood rules.

Back in 1979 I was the third officer in my department to put the "monogrip" on my 66.

A coupe of months later at an advanced officer class, the instructor recommended them and suddenly the Hogue was all over.

Never bothered to take them off ...

Hi:
Hogue grips is my favorite grip on my using/working guns.
P.S. I don't have any virgin/safe queens guns. The next owner of my guns is going to get "Non-Virgin" guns with turn lines, scorched chamber mouths, and slight bluing wear at the muzzles and high points of the cylinder. Oh, yes, just plain grips also.

Generally speaking, I don't think Hogues are at all ugly. There are some exceptions. I think some of the early models were ugly. And it would be a cold day before I put a pair of rubber grips on a SA. But overall I am a fan of the Hogues. A nice pair of wood grips are going to be prettier. But I've seen lots of insanely ugly wood grips. Nothing feels better, to me, than a nice set of Hogues.

Just took the Hogues off my 686. I actually like the way the Ahrends feel better. Sure there is a little more "sting" in my hands after a box of full house .357, but my trigger control is better and the grip fills my hand better.

If Hogues are so superior why do the competition revolver guys prefer the smooth wood grips like the Miculek style? Not rhetorical, I actually would like to know.

Hogue Bantams on my 547 RB saved my knuckle.

These Hogues made shooting 4-inch 629 way more tolerable than wood:

If'n I was carrying a revolver outside the pants for duty (I don't) I'd probably have rubbers on it. Depending on style and brand they can have a fit that out-performs any wood, checkered or not. My singular opinion only.

Especially so on the S&W 2 1/2 inch and 3 inch barreled K-Frames. The Pachmyer RB/exposed grip strap version (I forget the name) for me provides excellent handling characteristics.

For concealed carry I might not use rubber because I can see where it might help the gun "print" because it is seems to want to hang up inside the clothes.

BUT! Most of my guns have nice wood and most are checkered. I want them to look good to me and handle well.

I supposedly have a S&W M625-3 4 inch inbound to my FFL that is fitted with Hogues. They will be replaced with nice, checkered wood.

I use a variety of rubber/synthetic grips at the range. in the safe or in my pocket its classic wood.

I actually like the look of Hogues and they also feel better in my hands than pacs or other after market grips. I also like their wood grips as you can see. Please ignore the Colt
