Anyone else use these "ugly" grips

Three months ago I bought a S&W 57 wearing ugly steerhead stocks. I replaced them with a set of Hogue stocks. The Hogues were the cheapest things I could find. They do feel good in my hand, but do wish the bottom edge had the shape of the Bantam style stocks.

They are ugly but..

I hate the way rubber looks...but they are nice grips that suck up recoil and give you great control.

I love the looks of a nice wood, stag, bone, ivory grip.
But, all of my shootin' guns have ugly rubber grips..

I've got the rubber grips on my no-dash 686. They feel great. They don't look as good as the original grips, but since the original grips are getting expensive to replace, I'd rather leave them off the gun in fear of damage.

I also feel that a stainless gun can pull of hogues a lot better than a blued gun can.

I'd be glad to take a few sets of monogrips off your hands :D

So would I.

I actually like the look of Hogues and they also feel better in my hands than pacs or other after market grips. I also like their wood grips as you can see. Please ignore the Colt

Ignore the Colt, hell! I'm drooling over it. :)

Well seeing that this is a S&W forum and I'm a fairly new member I didn't want to push my luck. :D

The Diamondback grips actually feel the best out of all of my handguns. Maybe because they're slightly smaller than the S&W Hogues. I still like all my Hogues though.

I took all the wood off my J,K,L frames and put them up. Black on everything. Feels good, great, and absorb a lot of recoil.

I have them on my two M49 38 snub nose and also have them on my 686 357 Mag.............

Liked the large stock wood grips on the Mag but the Hogue grips just took so much of the recoil out and kept the muzzle jump down so much better, that I never went back to the wood grips.

However, I do like the way the wood grips look on my exposed holster, when hunting............:D

I'd switch these out in a second if I could find some wood that would let me keep my hands bruise free when I use these brutes. I HATE rubber !

I too like the look of well crafted wood stocks. A set of original Coke-bottle targets are things of beauty. That being said, I am a shooter and what works best for shooting is what is on my guns.

I'm lucky in that the finger grooves of the Hogue rubber grips fit my mitts perfectly. And, since I discovered the Bantam grips I have them on all the RB L-frames in the safe. In fact I sent a pair to my gunsmith who is building a custom 681 for me right now. He has instructions to turn it into a RB to match the Hogue Bantams before he sends it back.

YMMV,
Dave

i have a set of the Hogue Big Butts on my nickel 586 no dash, 1982. it is a display gun, i don't shoot it, i have others, but those grips look good! sorry no pics right now.

I really like the older Hogue style grips both their look and how they feel in my hand. I just purchased some for my new 686 Talo that came with wood grips. It's not that I don't like the wood grips, I just want to keep them nice. My 629 has the newer version of the "ugly grips" and I'm considering buying the older style to match my 686. That and I like the older style look better than the newer style.

I used the same Hogue on the 2.5" 66 I duty carried. The stock wood grips looked cool, but when firing .357 ammo, the web of my gun hand was torn and bleeding after about 30 rounds of a 60 round qualification course. The Hogue grip cured that problem.
