New 3" Smith & Wesson 1911. I'm stoked and can't wait to lay my hands on one.

Yawn..another 1911 clone. Time for a new design and end the continual rehashing of 1911 designs. Lazy designers at S&W. Do something new and innovative.

Nice gun. Should disappear in your coat nicely.

The CS45 and CS9 cover this need for me, but it would be a consideration if I were looking fresh at my requirements.

It sure is cute, but I am not too excited about it for a few reasons, in no particular order: (1) 1911s with barrels under 4 1/4 inches are notoriously finicky in their function, (2) muzzle "whip" is much worse, (3) since they are too heavy for pocket carry, you need a holster, and if you need a holster, might as well get the longer slide, as the longer slide conceals just as easily in an IWB holster and some find that the short barrel can sort of get pinched up and out of the holster as the weight is in the butt and so there is less to hold it in the pants, (4) the take down is slightly more complicated with the recoil spring set up, (5) recoil springs must be replaced very frequently on these short guns. I am sure I can think of other disadvantages if I had time, but those are the ones that come immediately to mind.

To my mind, the better pistol of the new introductions is the ES model, which has the Commander length slide and barrel on the Officer's frame, so you get the best of both worlds.

Shawn - I totally agree with you. there was a time Wilson Combat would not even work on a 1911 with a barrel under 4" because they were too hard to get them to be reliable.
Besides that the CCO (officer frame and Commander slide ) is one of the best balanced and most concealable 1911's made, assuming your hands are not the size of Hulk Hogan.
