anyone from KY

Happened to see this thread since I normally dont go to The Lounge. I am from right out of the Lexington area. I found this site when I found out that my Father had a model 1917 sitting in his gun cabinet. When he passed away a little over a year and half ago I seen the gun. Had a friend clean it up and said he would shoot it with now problem. Another friend and I went out to the range and I hate to admit it was an awesome feeling to shoot. I know it had been sitting in the cabinet with nothing done to it for over 23 years. Thats how long I have been married. The gun is not the best looker but it shoots very well. I have posted a few times before and would like to say that I am very impressed with this forum.

Funny comment. Just wait until I croak. Sons will suddenly have to open my safes and discover all the junk they've not been privy to. Or only one has seen. Ratty old engraved guns like early K22s, silver inlaid 38/44, etc. Or the boxed HBH K22s, and the boxed 2nd models. Even a stack of nasty old Brownings. :) Oh, and maybe a few RMs. And some 44s, 1st, 3rds, etc. Some targets, some not... :)

Its what us old guys do. We don't consult anyone, we become decisive in our old age, we see something we can't afford but want, so we buy it. Then we allow it to languish in the gun safe until we die. Then our ungrateful offspring stumble upon it, wonder what it is and where the old man found that lemon. Except, like here, when it turns out to be a treasure. 1917s are nice guns. Just like all prewar N's.

I'm in the Bowling Green area, not many public shooting areas except the corn field and woods next door. The new Rock Castle Shooting Center around Mammoth Cave is not fully functional yet, hopefully within the next few months. They do have some big events scheduled.
