Anyone get a 45ACP due to ammo price/availability?

I planned on staying with 9mm to make things easy as I already reload two calibers but changed my mind and picked up a new M&P 45c tonight.

I wouldn't have purchased a caliber that I don't like but I love the 45, just didn't love the price of ammo as 45 was always the expensive one. Things have reversed now 45ACP is one of the most available and reasonable priced calibers at .60-.70 a round and under a buck for GOOD hollow-points, dang 22LR is almost as expensive as 45ACP, what a joke.

If I could find small pistol primers the 9mm wouldn't be so bad.

Curious if anyone else went with .45 (recently) with ammo availability being a significant factor. If so, how do you like it? I've only shot mine once (tonight) and loved it, it shoots very much like my Shield 9 but the longer barrel length makes it easier to shoot.

There's nothing but .40 or .22 Mag around here, neither of which I own.

My thoughts on reloading are if you load for one you might as well load for every caliber you own.

But to answer you question, no I have not bought a new gun based on ammo availability but I would if I was in the market for one.

Not much around my neck of the woods. .40 held out the longest and us still available in small selections of SD ammo. .45 can be found if only a box but the price has gone up....obviously. i own 9 & 45. Just bought another 45 and hoping to add a 1911 by the end of the year. I already had a small stock if 45 so its not hurting me too bad but it isnt helping. My LGS just got some PMC fmj in @ $30/box. Used to be $17....almost doubled. I buy a little at a time, this way it doesnt hurt too much

I am seriously contemplating making the same purchase. I have been scouting around for a good buy on a 45c for a few weeks now because I can find .45 ACP at WalMarts in my area for $21 for 50 where as 9mm is going for $35!!!!! RIDICULOUS!!!!!!

45ACP Gander Mountain. .56 /rd

You know who else has been disappointing, in really gouging the ammo prices? Cheaper than dirt. Plus they never have anything in stock anyway.

I been using gunbot dot net, to find ammo, Gander Mountain just popped on the radar with 45ACP for .56 a round, it's CCI but not a bad price, and Luck Gunner had Golden Saber 45ACP for under a buck.

I had been shooting 45ACP the least, but that has changed. Like its already been said here, 45ACP has become one of the easier calibers to find in my area. Sometime back, my LGS had the Blazer Brass 200 round 230 GR ammo box for $99. They had a whole palette full, so I dilly dallied. All gone now, of course. I'm still kicking myself. I would put the order of availability around here at 45, 40, then 9mm. It seems like ammo is getting a little easier to find, but definitely not like last year. I am looking at another 45, but not an M&P, as I prefer 3rd Gens. Got to feed the fever!:D:cool:

We haven't had ammo in our Walmart for months. I've gone in at least a dozen times looking. Nothing except 30-30, maybe 30/06 typical deer rounds which are not popular here. Even the overpriced security ammo is gone

I was notified by MidwayUSA that small pistol primers arrived a couple days ago. 30 minutes later when I saw the e-mail they were already gone. Unreal.

I shoot .45ACP because it's the only SD round that makes sense. ;)

The ammo situation will get better, but I fear it will get worse first. The stupidity in congress is not over.

I guess it's a little different, but I'm considering ordering a cylinder for 45acp to fit my Freedom Arms 454 Casull so I have something reasonable priced to shoot.

Scored a 200rd box or 45acp lately at Sportsman's Warehouse (I also have a 1911, so try to keep some 45acp around the house)

BTW, SW has kept prices on guns (what few they have) semi-reasonable.

i too recently picked up the 45c...love it!no ammo shortage here as i reload...wayyyy cheap at about $5.50 per 50 rounds

Ammo is available at times here, so I buy what I get right now (no russian or korean stuff), but w/o paying ridiculous prices. Won't sell my 45s only b/c some !@#$ talk some !@#$% in D.C. period!

45 is out there a little less than 40 but a lot more than 9mm

I see 45 acp on the shelves a lot more than 9mm out here and I have thought of doing the exact same thing. If I could find a mp45c or nice 1911 I would def do it.

Bought a shield 9 & a governor last week. Got tired of seeing all that .410 ammo at Walmart so I've been buying my 3 box limit. Every Walmart seems to have it over here. I have a 1911 as my primary carry so I had plenty of .45 & ordered 100 moon clips. Keep the .45 ammo coming I'm fine with it.

I bought a 45 cause I love the 45. Not a fan of the 40's... Just a personal preference thing. All my pistols are 22LR, 9mm or 45acp.

But, I reload, and that makes the sting a little less on the ammo prices. I had not reloaded any 9mm in a long time, but now I am forced to.

I have been seeing more and more 45 bulk ammo lately, so hopefully things are loosening up. Still not seeing much if any 9mm.

I reload the 45ACP with 200 SWC's, 700-x, and mag primers...comes out to 0.16 per round. Much better the .60 factory.
