Anyone go back to a heavier EDC?

I have heard it said many times over the years that the purpose of shooting is hitting. The reasons why we shoot may vary. I was (and am) a revolver guy. I have switched almost entirely to a Glock 26 because I can hit with it. It seems my skill with it is less perishable than with a snub revolver. I still occasionally carry a snub 38 when situation dictates. I'm aware of my limitations with it, vis a vis the glock. My revolver choices used to be airweight 638 or model 12. More lately it's a model 49 or model 10 snub. These are not often carried but what I carry when I do. The airweights hurt my hand more (arthritis) during extended practice. For some reason, I just seem to hit better and faster with a steel frame revolver. The airweights get the nod, however, for the rare times I carry a backup gun.

Yep, in .38 Spl. from a 5 shot 2” Airweight S&W M-642 to an all stainless steel 3” barreled 6 shot Taurus M-856.

It weighs 24 oz. and has a Tungsten Ceracoat finish on top of the stainless steel that makes it very rust resistant; which is appreciated on the rust inducing hot and humid American Gulf Coast.

I did an action job on it and replaced the 11 pound factory mainspring Galloway 9 lb. mainspring.

It loves 158 gr SWC ammo and firing double action off hand will put 6 rounds in 2” at 15 yards if you do your part.

Carried a P365 for a couple of years but never could warm up to a striker fired pistol. So I switched to my Sig 1911 Ultra Compact in 9mm which I could shoot very well. Recently, on a whim, bought a HK p2000 and have run it through its paces. It is now my EDC in a Mitch Rosen OWB holster. Sold off my P365's.

I work on the assumption that I only carry because I might have to shoot. If I have to shoot, I want to hit. For me, the lightest firearm I can shoot really well is an M49 with +P ammo or the Smith Shields (I only use 40 or 45).

Carry my CSX now, but every now and then I return to my 39-2. My CSX is appendix. If I had a good paddle with thumb release for my CSX I would stick with it all the time. My biggest issue at my age is keeping my breeches up. 🤣

No school like the old school...
Except that new model revolver with the lock. Lol.

I've gone up and down over the years. Started with a Walther PPK/S, then down to a Ruger LCP, then got a SW40VE, then a M&P40 Shield, then a M&P40c.

The heaviest handgun I've ever owned is the S&W 4006TSW, I've never once attempted to carry it. It would certainly tame my 165gr Ranger T carry ammo quite nicely though if I did, so I suppose that in the event in which my hand were injured or I simply couldn't tolerate the recoil of .40 S&W out of subcompact polymer framed carry pistols anymore, then I could see giving it a go.

But then again, maybe I'd just pick up a new M&P40 Metal...

Switching to a heavier gun is something I actually do pretty often. I always carry. Usually in the form of a Kimber K6XS. But, I work in the public sector, and given my clientele, sometimes something with a little more horsepower just makes more sense. If I've gotten some threats more credible than usual, I know of a situation on the streets that could affect me, or heck...sometimes just a full moon or a general case "THAT feeling" I strap on my N frame .45 Colt or something similarly full sized and get back to living. At one point in my life, that .45 Colt was my daily carry for five years or so. I'm kinda used to it. I do believe that the leather chosen makes all the difference in the world. To this day, when I strap that gun on, it's more like shaking hands with an old friend than strapping on a 40+ ounce weight.
