Just curious if there was info on S&W's current best selling revolver?

My assumption is J-frame, maybe 642??

There's some government agency, the AFT I believe, that publish an annual report on the number gun's sold by Company. They break it down into semi-autos and revolvers. Something about chamberings (caliber). But no more detail than that.

I think the M642 would be a good guess on most produced current S&W revolver. What would be next, or close, that new plastic 38 Bodyguard thing? The robots can spit them out like Oscar Mayer hot dogs.

I, too, would be interested in that data. I would think the 686 line would be up there. Do they really sell a lot of those plastic bodyguards? I don't think I know anyone that has one.

Yeah, great question. I'd like to read this data too. Hope someone will come along who knows. I'm just replying to keep the thread alive and well.

Latest ATF report.

J frames no doubt rule the sales #'s.

Interesting stats regarding handgun sales 2013:
-Semi-autos:Revolvers ratio = 6.1 to 1

-S&W sold 225,777 revolvers or about one-third of all revolvers

-S&W sold approx. 166,000 .38/.357 caliber or about 3/4 of revolvers sold by S&W

-A company called Charco (Charter Arms???) sold about 51,000 revolvers

-CZ sold only 4 revolvers

-Robar and a few others sold only one revolver
