Anyone have experience with Battery Assist Device?

I agree with most:the battery assist is not really needed. Proper training would replace the need. I was a M-14 fellow in Nam and never wanted a Colt AR as I didnt trust them. I was a instrutor for the old Black Water group and aquired one of the first M&P 15 out. Much different than the old Colt. The fellows at BW went through the M&P
for me then gave me excellent training on it. The M&P 15 is the most fun to shoot and will hold 1 moa at 300 meters using reloads or blackhills rounds. I have never had a malfunction with the firearm
during very agressive combat training. The M&P 15 is a fine firearm
for most compat problems encountered. IF the M&P can't fix the problem the M-14 will. (Grin)

I liked the device because it simplified manipulation for me. The downsides were twofold:

1. Even with time I still got the willies putting my finger inside the trigger guard for something other than firing the weapon. I noticed that spirited bolt manipulation would often cause weapon movement which added to my concern. Just the thought that my finger might slip from one to the other if I were manipulating on the move caused me to rethink it.

2. It makes the older way of locking/releasing the bolt less intuitive. Since I teach that, I decided it might be best to stick with the unmodified because I can't modify department guns to add the BAD.

I had one on my sport. I kind of went Magpul crazy after I got it. I have since removed the BAD and the ASAP plate.

It worked fine and I used it mostly to lock the bolt open while keeping my trigger hand in place. The only issue I had was that while doing fast mag changes I would rotate the rifle (mag opening to my left) to put a new mag in and sometimes my trigger finger would bump the bad lever and close the bolt. I would have my trigger finger out of the well, but across it (finger tip above the mag release) and the weight of the gun would push the tip of the BAD lever into my finger.

In the end it just was something I did not need and something that could go wrong. I would suggest a ambi-charging handle instead.
