Anyone know this headstamp on 45ACP?

I picked up some decent looking brass at the range (yes, I know

) I inspected it closely and seems to be fine. I have never seen the headstamp however. It is simply a I with a star on each side of the I.

45 Auto

Anyone know what this is??

Independence. I think they are made by Federal as inexpensive range ammo. it's usable brass, I have a bunch, and it seems to work well.

Thanks. Yes, I have heard of Independence, just never used it or saw it in all my scrounging.

Edit: I just found this thread from the 1911 forum. Appears in might be Federal,Blazer CCI,Alliant, Magtech made in Brazil. You know, like buying a car.

The cases are almost identical to CCI. I have noticed in the 45ACP version that there is a slight concave from rim to primer pocket. This can make it difficult if reloading on a progressive.

It is good brass and I use the 38spl in great numbers.

If you look at Frank's wesite, you will notice that the credit to manufacturer is CCI.

Excellent site! Thank you. I think when I orginally searched for the stamp I went to that site but never clicked on the individual letter gallery
