In the Mid-1980s my friends and I were shooting PPC or 2700 Bullseye matches just about every weekend. Someone told us about the"Can O' Lead 50 Yard Wadcutters" and we each bought a case or more. As you can see they came packed loose in a paint can. They are really accurate at 50 yards in both revolver and my Model 52.

I'm getting down to my last cans of these bullets. What are you reloaders using for precision HBWC bullets these days? I cast my own bullets (H&G 251) but can't get them to shoot as tight at 50 yards as these old HBWCs.

I'm getting very tight groups out of Bayou Bullets 138 gr. DEWC. Running them at around 920 fps. I don't know how they would do at the lower 750 to 800 fps. that the HBWC normally run at. I have to make a minimum power factor, so haven't tried them at lower velocity.

In the pics they appear to be dry lubed. Have you tried Hornady HBWCs for accuracy? I'm sure they will cost more than your Can-O-Lead bullets, but may be good to see if a swaged HBWC is what you need...

Remington makes a bullet like that with a black coating but if you have a tight chamber they may need resizing. The last ones I bought were .359 and I had to resize to .357 for my Clark. Zero and 3D made some also. Precision Delta have some dry lube ones that look good. $82 per 1000.

I shot PPC and BE back in the 70s through the 90s but never encountered "Can O Lead" HBWC bullets. I usually shot Speer or Hornady. Later I started casting the Lyman 35891 but haven't in years. One of those empty cans would make a neat novelty in a guy's reloading room.

I use the Hornady HBWC. The last time I bought them was a couple years ago, they were getting kind of pricey. Something in the range of $25 per box of 250. I like them so I keep buying them.

The lube is a dry crumbly coating that makes a mess, but works well. Speer also makes a HBWC that uses a less messy dry lube, but I prefer Hornady. I've never tried Zero or Precision Delta.

I use Speer Bullets 38 Caliber (358 Diameter) 148 Grain Lead Hollow Base and they work good. They look very similar to those in the photo.

You could send a bullet to Tom at accuratemolds.com and have him cut you a mold then you would never run out

Sounds like a local thing. Around here there used to be a Bull-x company out of around Farmer City, IL. I've shot many boxes of their 38 and 45 bullets. Now I cast my own - just because.

Yep I remember them, I'm pretty sure I've got a couple of empty cans laying around my shop. Mine were 158 SWC not full wadcutters.

Remington discontinued those :C

I picked up a couple of those cans in a gun shop in PA. a couple of years ago. Did not realize they were that old. They shot great in my Colt 1911 MidRange .38 Special. Wish I could find more. Since those are gone now, I just cast my own.
