Will it clean hard residue or polish out small scratches on a SS revolver like Flitz?

Its yours, but I wouldn't want to go that deep on a nice SS. Use light pressure with the Flitz, stay in the same direction if possible when rubbing. Then try to find a good wax(Renaissance)to finish the job.
Mine looks almost nickel afterwards

All auto rubbing compound I have ever seen has a grit or polishing compound in it that I think would scratch your gun even worse. I would not use it.

Try mothers mag and aluminum polish. Then wax.
