In this thread, I put forth a question in hopes that someone could help me find an alternative for the integral front sight on my new 629-4...

And as I searched around for other alternatives, I find this company just up the road from me, in Medina, Ohio. Here is a photo essay of their cutting several barrels down to 4 inches and the installation of a front sight base...

4 conversion

I am going to call them tomorrow to see what their current price and processing time is for their "Convert "Integral" Front Sight to "Classic & DX" Interchangeable base $135.00".

I really like their gold bead front sights...

Does anyone here have any feedback on their quality of work? From the photos on their site, they look like they are about as picky as I am, so perhaps they will be a good choice.

Opinions please...

No direct knowledge on their machine work?
But I recall them about 8 or 10 years ago, being among the first to make available F/O pinned in replacement front blades for S&W wheel guns. At the time, theirs were among the few that had a square (90 degree) top on the F/O blade. Due to many folks having trouble with the rounded tops, eventually most makers came around to doing it the way SDM had chosen from the start.

Appreciate the response...
Unfortunately, the owner just emailed me and said that he is not taking any work now...

Try Jack Wiegand. I don't know if he's taking new customers now or not. His stuff looks pretty good from what I've seen on the internet. I know Hamilton Bowen (top notch work himelf) uses Wiegand front sights when he has projects requiring such things.

Scott Mulkerin (SDM) uses Jack Weigand ramps when he replaces a fixed front S&W sight. His work is excellent, for which the "no new work" response is probably a good indicator.
