I have a 9mm pro series 5 inch I have been shooting for over a year now at IDPA and other events as well as every weekend at my range. I love the gun!!! I decided since i had some spare $ and i'm always looking for the edge I would order the APEX CAEK since it was on sale last week for $75. I got it and installed it and went out to my range today. Right out of the box i had a light primer strike, and about a dozen more in 100 rounds. I think i got this problem taken care of with the triger bar loop adjustment, seeing as i just put 20 more rounds threw it with no problem, and I'll head back out with a few hundred rounds tomrrow to make sure. Anyway the real question and problem I am having is the trigger reset is very vauge almost to the point I would say that you cant feel the reset. The other odd part is as you let the trigger out you get a click before you actully hit the spot the trigger resets. Any ideas or info? Thanks in advance.

I have the same kit in my pro 9 for idpa. I cannot think of anything other than the possibility that you may have adjusted your loop too much that may cause the click you describe. I mean the only other thing you could possibly do wrong when installing this kit is to put the trigger spring in backwards.

As for the reset and making it more defined, APEX make a part called the RAM that will do the best at taking care of that. I have heard the new S&W slide releases help as well but I cannot confirm that with first hand experience.

I'm having trouble making the connection between light primer strikes and the trigger bar adjustment.
The DCAEK didn't do much to improve the felt reset on my 45c, but the FSS sure did.

The trigger bar loop adjustment will not do anything for the light hits. It is only for fine tuning the sear release and or reset. With this kit, did you install a lighter striker spring. If so that is the cause of the light hits. The click before reset might be due to a wrong loop adjustment and I would guess you did not have the click prior to the Apex install. Was the reset "vague" before the Apex install? If this is a newer gun, then you will not have the hole in the sear housing for the Apex RAM, as S&W changed the sear housings.

I read some stuff about the striker dragging on the sear due to the sear not disengauging fast enough or fully and by opening up the loop can help this. after i did that the light strikes stopped, but this is not the issue i am trying to solve right now. O and Yes i installed the lighter striker spring. And no i did not have this "vague" reset before the APEX install. Woundering if i should just take it out and go back to stock. My pro is a 2013 build but it does have the hole in the sear housing for the RAM.

There has been some speculation that the light strikes could be caused by improper adjustment of the trigger bar loop.

The theory is if the timing is off between the loop and the striker block disengagement, the striker could be partially caught on the striker block.

I would suggest you install the full Apex kit including the striker block and sear and even the polymer trigger and extractor.

The RAM will give a very positive reset.

I had this very same problem after I installing the dcaek on my 45 c. I had a double (one false) reset, and a light one at that. This made me pretty upset because my stock reset was actually very nice, just had a gritty take up and heavy pull. So I got to thinking. The first false reset is your trigger bar coming off the ultimate striker block. I decided to put the stock striker block spring back in and it totally fixed the problem. I also put the stock trigger spring back in as well. Give it a try it worked for me.
