I have just received my APEX DCAK and trigger kit. I have never taken apart my M&P .45 4” except to clean. I have watched numerous youtube and the APEX install videos. My questions are, is it that difficult or should I seek a gunsmith? I do feel I am mechanically inclined. Just looks intimidating
Second is, I found a really detailed youtube video on an install but it is for a M&P shield ([ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eZkgDuhMok[/ame]), I think its a .40 but not sure. Is the breakdown the same? Can I follow that video if needed? Any info appreciated really want to get this kit on.

DCAEK installation is the same for all the M&P pistols, including the shield.

If you have the proper tools (specifically a roll pin punch), then the install is not difficult. The only tricky part is installing the trigger pin (using the slave pin provided in the kit helps) and tuning of the trigger bar loop for proper over-travel.

The Apex web site also has videos detailing the install process.

i did the FSS trigger kit for the first time on my M&P...it is a bit intimidating leading up to starting it, but just make sure you set aside some time to be able to focus on watching the videos and taking your time. There is nothing fragile on the gun, and there is nothing terribly difficult involved.

The video you linked to is the one i used as well.

Disassemble on a white cloth. Makes it easier to find the spring that jumps into the dark. Otherwise, a large magnet helps.

I ordered the dcaek and polymer trigger action kit online but found out a local gun shop would have installed it for free if I bought it from them at a similar price. dohhh! I'll learn to give my local guy the business next time!

I haven't been to range yet, but a few dry fires and it seems it is cleaned up a bit but not quite the drastic "new different gun" type claims as I've seen on the forums.
