Approximate value of an immaculate ANIB 28-2?

So I listed the gun on a local gun board out of curiosity and a man contacted me today. Turns out he is a regular customer of mine and I knew he was into collectible guns and older Smiths and Colts that had original boxes but it didn't click with me to call him.

He emails me and I don't recognize the name on the email, then he responds again with his actual name and I realized who it was. Called him back and he came and picked it up for $800 cash.

So,you are a dealer then? If so,that turns a great buy into an average buy for a dealer. After all,a dealer typically offers only half of what a gun is worth.
f.t.

No, it was a private sale, and I gave him what he asked for it.

Even at $800 that gun would last minutes on my local Kalifornistan classifieds board...

California price would be at least $1200 and maybe as high as $1500 IMHO for a perfect specimen with box and papers.

In "free states" I can only guess, but at least $800 maybe more.
